The BREATHE project's major goal is to raise environmental consciousness and literacy among young Europeans, particularly in coastal areas. This goal is founded on the recognition of an existing gap in environmental knowledge and comprehension among youngsters. The European Environmental Agency's (EEA) "Youth and Coastal Ecosystems Awareness in Europe" study put light on this important issue. The research emphasizes young people's lack of thorough awareness of the importance of coastal and marine habitats, as well as the environmental issues these ecosystems confront. To address this, the project seeks to provide youth workers with the tools and resources they need to offer successful environmental education programs that are tailored to the individual needs and interests of young people. Furthermore, it aims to provide young people with the information and literacy needed to understand the intricacies of coastal concerns, promoting a sense of duty and stewardship for coastal conservation among the youth. The BREATHE project's primary goal is to engage young people in environmental preservation initiatives. This goal is firmly backed by empirical findings from Eurostat's EuroYouth Survey 2021, which demonstrate that many young Europeans express a willingness to participate in environmental activities but frequently face hurdles relating to access and guidance. As a result, the project intends to improve youth workers' skills and competencies in successfully engaging and encouraging young people to participate actively in coastal conservation projects. It aims to give significant possibilities for youth participation by instilling in them a feeling of ownership and responsibility for their surroundings. The BREATHE initiative lays a major emphasis on developing digital skills and encouraging creativity among both youth workers and young participants. In today's digital age, employing new digital technologies for environmental education is critical for garnering student attention and involvement. This goal is consistent with the Erasmus+ program's overarching purpose of encouraging the use of digital technologies and methodologies in educational endeavors. To achieve this goal, the initiative proposes to provide young workers with digital skills and creative training approaches that will enable them to traverse the digital terrain successfully. It also intends to enable young people to use digital platforms for environmental learning, equipping them with the digital literacy required for active engagement in the digital age. Recognizing the global character of coastal environmental concerns, the BREATHE project coincides with the Erasmus+ program's goals of promoting cross-border collaboration. The necessity of international collaboration and information exchange in resolving environmental problems is highlighted in the European Commission's "Blue Growth Strategy." To meet this demand, the initiative intends to train youth workers to enhance international collaboration and information sharing among participants. It aims to instill in young people a feeling of global citizenship and collaboration that transcends regional boundaries. A key goal of the BREATHE initiative is to empower young people to take on leadership positions and advocate for coastal sustainability in their communities. This goal respects young people's agency and potential as agents of good change. To do this, the initiative attempts to provide youth workers with the tools and tactics they need to successfully cultivate young leadership talents. It aims to empower young people to originate and lead their own environmental initiatives, while also offering a forum for them to build leadership skills. Furthermore, the initiative hopes to motivate young people to support environmental concerns and effect good change in their communities. The BREATHE project's goals are around sustainability and long-term effect. While the project's length is limited, its influence is meant to last beyond its lifespan. To accomplish this goal, the project intends to train young workers in dissemination abilities, allowing them to disseminate project outcomes extensively through multiple channels and platforms. It aims to inspire young people to stay involved in coastal sustainability initiatives when the project is completed. The project aims to contribute to the development of youth work practices in environmental education and engagement, as well as to establish a legacy of youth-led environmental projects and a culture of environmental awareness at the local, regional, national, and European levels. Above all, the BREATHE initiative places a high value on recognizing and documenting young participants' learning results. This goal is consistent with the concepts of the Youthpass framework, which is a useful instrument for recording and recognizing the personal and social development of young people involved in youth work activities.
