Objectives

As a continuation of the trilateral youth exchanges, subsidised by European programmes since 2008, the project "Al ritmo de la juventud" (At the rhythm of youth) was developed, held from 5 July to 12 July 2024 in Calasparra. This trilateral project associated young people from Spain (Calasparra), Germany (Donzdorf) and France (Riorges) allowing, among other things, to increase the level of competence of young people, with non-formal and informal learning processes, through workshops and continuous coexistence with young people from other cultures. For eight days, 60 young men and women (15 Germans, 15 French and 30 Spaniards), aged between 15 and 25 years old, were between the ages of 13 and 17, worked around a double thread: musical artistic competence and the defence of diversity in the face of bullying situations that they may experience and/or witness in their daily lives. They also reflected on the importance of youth mental health, especially at a time when they are still suffering from the aftermath of the COVID pandemic. With this project, "To the rhythm of youth", the young people developed their creativity and personal competence, with the help of qualified personnel who conveyed to the participants the importance of actively participating in our society and, more specifically, in the care of our musical, cultural and natural heritage. In addition to the experienced monitors who accompanied the young people in all the activities, training was provided by music experts (Calasparra Music Band Association, Calasparra Cultural Choral Association, Municipal School of Music, Music and Dance teachers from the schools), the municipal technicians of Youth and Sports and experts in bullying prevention and youth mental health. During the days of the exchange, the young people carried out various workshops, such as an exhibition on bullying situations in their schools and on the chosen song from their country, as well as having fun learning how to create a rap with verses in the three languages. In addition to these workshops, they had moments of conviviality, leisure and free time activities, practice of activities nautical activities, as well as outings to visit other places in the town and the Region of Murcia. The accommodation was with families from Calasparra, which has added value to the project, as it is in these moments of living with the families that the cultural differences, customs, etc. are most appreciated, at the same time as they have an intensive exposure to a foreign language, in this case, French and German before Spanish. In terms of methodology, it was the young people themselves who, through direct and systematic observation, have experimented, discovered and drawn their conclusions on how they can be active citizens in the dissemination and protection of musical, cultural and natural heritage, both on a personal and associative level. In addition to the objectives in the specific aspects of this project, the participants have benefited from the values and skills that this type of meeting brings, such as respect for other cultures, linguistic skills in their own language and in a foreign language, technological knowledge in the preparation of the exhibitions and dissemination of the meeting, etc. The first beneficiaries have been the young people participating in the project, but the impact of the project has reached their families, the partners of the participating organisations and the municipalities in general. The monitors have encouraged the participation of the young people in all the phases of the project, so that their involvement would be maximum and, in this way, the impact would be greater and more lasting in time. On the other hand, an important dissemination of the project has been carried out, from the initial phase until the end of the project, reaching as many people as possible. This dissemination has been carried out through social networks, official websites of the local councils of the participating municipalities, local and regional press, websites dedicated to the European Union, etc. With the development of the project, there is no doubt that young people will benefit in the long term by increasing the level of skills and competencies of young people, thereby contributing to their personal development and increasing the active participation in society and improving the future employability of young people.
