In an increasingly complex and challenging world, the mental health of young people emerged as a critical concern. Recognizing the vital role of youth workers, educators, and facilitators in providing essential support to young individuals facing mental health challenges, our project, titled "Mental Health First Aid Kit for Youth Workers," sought to equip these professionals with the skills, knowledge, and tools necessary to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people. The program for this training was built around four objectives: 1. Recognition and Communication: The project aimed to empower youth workers with the ability to recognize signs of mental health problems in young people. Through comprehensive training, participants gained insights into common symptoms and learned how to initiate compassionate and effective conversations with those in need. 2. Mental Health First Aid: We aimed to provide youth workers with essential mental health first aid skills. This included the capacity to deliver initial interventions and support to young individuals experiencing mental health crises. 3. Effective Communication: Effective communication was emphasised as essential in fostering a supportive environment and addressing mental health issues sensitively and efficiently. Our training program highlighted the importance of both group and individual communication, ensuring that youth workers could effectively support not only individuals in crisis but also the dynamics of the groups they worked with. This objective underscored the need to avoid stigmatisation and blame while providing support. 4. Self-Care: Recognizing the toll that supporting young people with mental health challenges could take on youth workers, our project placed significant emphasis on self-care. We aimed to provide them with the necessary tools and knowledge to protect their own well-being. This training evolved from a previous one, "Mental Health First Aid Kit," whose program had been modified and improved based on feedback and confirmation of the topic's importance from our previous training course. We also changed partners to achieve a wider impact. As we continued to collaborate with new partners and engage a diverse group of professionals, our project strived to extend its reach and impact, creating a safer, more supportive environment for both young individuals facing mental health challenges and a more secure working environment for youth workers.
