Objectives

By implementing this project, we have aimed to empower youth workers with the skills and knowledge necessary to support individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in overcoming physical, socio-emotional, and non-verbal communication challenges. Our primary objective has been to enhance the institutional capacity of organizations working with youth with ASD, enabling them to foster the development of critical skills and promote their overall well-being. In order to achieve this goal, we have focused on integrating mindfulness-based approaches, including Mindfulness Breath Awareness, movement awareness, deep relaxation techniques, practising physical yoga poses combined with imaginative storytelling, and walking meditation. These techniques have been specifically tailored to reduce stress and anxiety levels while enhancing the physical and emotional resilience of youth with ASD. Youth workers have been trained to implement these methods, ensuring sustainable application in their work. Accordingly, our specific objectives have been as follows: To increase participants' understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with autism in various countries and explore potential solutions to these challenges. To teach mindfulness techniques, including breath awareness, movement awareness, deep relaxation practices, and physical yoga poses, designed for application with young people on the autism spectrum. To develop relaxing and calming activities aimed at reducing stress and anxiety among youth with ASD. To foster long-term collaborations among partner organisations, creating a sustainable network to address the problems faced by youth with autism spectrum disorder.
