Objectives

“Cinema Paradiso: Social Impact Through Videomaking” was conceived as a training project aimed at empowering both youth workers and unemployed young people through audiovisual creation. Its title, inspired by the Italian film, reflects the belief that cinema, and video production in general, can be a space for learning, transformation, and social participation. It was not just about teaching a technical tool, but about offering participants a way to tell stories, give visibility to their organisations, and generate impact in their communities. In a society marked by message saturation, misinformation, the climate crisis, and the digital divide, it is essential to equip young people and those who work with them with the skills to communicate clearly, accessibly, and with social content. This project emerged from the recognition of a need shared by several European organisations: to improve their communication capacity, expand their reach, and professionalise their messaging without relying on external financial resources or advanced technical knowledge. The project was designed to be practical, accessible, and transformative. The activities combined theory, practice, reflection, and real video production. A collaborative, inclusive approach was encouraged, adapted to the realities of each participant group. Non-formal learning served as the methodological basis, allowing each person to acquire skills through experience, experimentation, and teamwork. From the beginning, five specific objectives were defined that structured the entire development of the project. These objectives were not only conceived as learning goals, but also as strategic lines to ensure the applicability of the learning outcomes in the participants’ daily and professional lives: - Training Youth Workers: We aimed to equip youth workers with tools to create engaging videos that would foster social change and environmental awareness. - Empowering Young People: Beyond technical skills, our focus was on strengthening soft skills such as teamwork and communication, facilitating their entry into the workforce. - Promoting Social Messages: Through video production, we intended to raise awareness and encourage dialogue on social and environmental issues. - Sustainability and Accessibility: We ensured that the skills delivered could be applied using accessible tools and resources. - Networking and Collaboration: We aimed to create a network that would support future collaborations and socially impactful projects. From participant selection to programme design, the entire project was developed with a clear intention of long-term impact: to professionalise, connect, and make youth work visible through the language of video.
