Objectives

The increasing number of youth projects underscored the critical need for effective impact assessment, which led to a training course on social impact measurement in youth work. This training course was crucial for several reasons. Firstly, as the number of projects grew, it became imperative to accurately evaluate their impact to ensure better outcomes. The training course equipped youth workers with the skills and knowledge needed to rigorously assess project results, ultimately leading to more impactful and successful endeavors. Defining what constituted a good result in European projects and understanding its significance in the lives of young people and youth workers was essential. The training course provided clarity on success parameters and offered guidance on achieving impactful results that positively influenced the lives of the target audience. Moreover, the course empowered youth workers with impact measurement methodologies and strategies, a fundamental outcome of Metrics For Good: Measuring Social Impact. This empowerment contributed not only to more effective impacts at various levels but also transformed young participants into proactive agents of change. The EU's strong focus on equal access to youth employability highlighted the importance of aligning training programs with these objectives. By enabling youth workers to assess project impacts accurately, the course supported the development and implementation of effective education, training, and employment policies. Analogous to "building a house from the ground up," the learning process began with a solid foundation. Impact assessment, coupled with clearly defined metrics, constituted this foundational step. The training course equipped youth workers with the tools necessary to assess impacts accurately, establishing a strong starting point for effective learning. Lastly, effective communication and future opportunities for young people were significantly enhanced through this training. Imparting theoretical and practical knowledge to youth workers allowed them to effectively convey messages to young people, enriching their understanding and prospects, and fostering a more impactful learning environment. The training course, Metrics For Good: Measuring Social Impact, supported the professional development of youth workers, thereby promoting the quality of work with young people and various community groups at the local, regional, national, European, and international levels. This was achieved through non-formal and informal learning experiences during the project activities. In addition to assisting partner organizations in understanding whether the implemented actions benefited their participants and youth workers, social impact assessment significantly enhanced the transparency of their projects—an essential asset in the youth work sector, as highlighted in the European Youth Work Strategy. The project offered many benefits, including: 1) Enhancing project efficiency, sustainability, and effectiveness. 2) Guiding informed decision-making and scaling through evaluation insights. 3) Establishing trust with social investors and target audiences. 4) Promoting the dissemination of work and demonstrating societal reach. 5) Cultivating rigor and transparency in the sector's culture. 6) Improving dialogue with the public sector for better policies, expanded projects, and increased funding. 7) Deepening understanding of services, processes, and outcomes for beneficiaries. 8) Quantifying impact and understanding beneficiaries, affected regions, etc. 9) Facilitating networking among organizations, CSOs, data sharing, and sector advancement. 10) Demonstrating how projects could create more value. 11) Humanizing the beneficiary experience for impactful initiatives and improved results in people's lives. Key Needs Addressed: 1) The need for effective impact assessment. 2) The need for training on social impact measurement. 3) The need for clarity on success parameters. 4) The need for the empowerment of youth workers. The project aligned with the EU's Youth Strategy 2019–2027, emphasizing youth work quality, innovation, and recognition. It aimed to: 1) Build a supportive community of youth workers to enhance project quality for young people. 2) Develop local youth work practices and capacitate youth workers and organizations for impactful engagement with young people. 3) Provide non-formal and informal learning opportunities for youth workers' professional growth and organizational development. 4) Establish a platform for sharing best practices, promoting learning, and enhancing impact mediation skills among youth workers.
