The “Foro Novo del Baixo Miño” project was an initiative under the Erasmus+ call – Youth Participation Activities (KA154-YOU), whose main objective was to promote the active participation of young people from the Baixo Miño region (Galicia), as well as to address the concerns and issues affecting this population. The project was based on the following four pillars: 1. Youth participation: There was a growing need to involve young people from the Baixo Miño region in decision-making and in voicing their concerns and needs. Therefore, opportunities were created for young people to become actively engaged in the project and in the civic life of their communities. 2. Expression of concerns: Young people from the region raised specific concerns and problems that needed to be heard and addressed. The need for a space where they could express these concerns and work towards concrete solutions was identified. 3. Inclusion in the political agenda: The project sought to influence the political agenda of the region, ensuring that the concerns of young people were taken into account by local public representatives. This required the creation of an effective process to communicate and discuss these concerns, particularly through artistic expression and debate. 4. Retention of young population: The municipalities of Baixo Miño shared with FOCO their concern about the lack of young people aged between 18 and 30, which was undoubtedly the greatest demographic loss in the region. With this project, they sought to identify the obstacles faced by young people of this age group when migrating to other parts of Galicia and Spain. The objectives of the project were as follows: The general objective of the project was to bring together a group of young people from Baixo Miño so that they could share their concerns and issues, and convey them to local public representatives in order to foster the search for concrete solutions to their problems. With this project, an effort was made to include the concerns of young people from these municipalities in the political agenda. Specifically: - To create a group of 20 young people from Baixo Miño representing all the municipalities of the region. - To create a forum theatre piece that travelled as a caravan through the municipalities of Baixo Miño, gathering the concerns of other young people who did not participate directly in the project. - To create short theatre pieces, performed inside cars in a “site specific” format, which allowed for greater proximity and closeness with the audience and, therefore, greater impact and engagement. These pieces were developed from the concerns of the project group and from the collection phase carried out through forum theatre. - To present these pieces at participatory meetings between local representatives and young people from each of the municipalities. One event was held in each municipality, and the performances served as a starting point for conversations on the concerns of young people.
