We aimed to: 1. Increase environmental awareness among young people aged 13 to 30 by implementing the Youth Engagement Beyond the Classroom ( YEBEC ) methodology for 70 young people. 2. Trained 18 youth workers, including 5 people from fewer opportunity profiles, on YEBEC methodology to implement it with young people. 3. Developed the YEBEC methodology collaboratively with partner organisations, incorporating elements of environmental awareness, values education, non-formal education, and language immersion. 4. Promoted and raised visibility of non-formal education and EU opportunities through dissemination ( posts, local events, videos) and methodology. 6. Disseminated knowledge and resources to educators, youth workers, and organisations interested in environmental education. 7. Created a strong consortium and knowledge exchange between 3 organisations which led to the future collaboration
It is to adress two global issues: the environmental crisis and young people’s growing detachment from civic and ecological responsibility. We, NewPa (Spain), N.E.W. LOOPS (Portugal), and Roes Cooperativa (Greece), expressed concerns about environmental degradation in our countries, including forest fires, plastic pollution, coastal erosion, and biodiversity loss. The project was created to equip youth workers with an innovative methodology to engage young people (ages 13–30) in environmental action. This age group is increasingly disconnected from nature, a trend worsened by digital saturation and the lasting social impacts of COVID-19. We believe that non-formal, hands-on learning is among the most effective ways to restore this connection and foster long-term ecological commitment. An additional need was to improve young people’s multilingual skills, especially English, to enhance international collaboration on global environmental issues. NewPa and N.E.W. LOOPS brought expertise in permaculture and outdoor education, Roes added strength in Erasmus+ experience. This partnership created YEBEC to tackle youth disengagement, tool gaps, and strengthen EU collaboration.
