Objectives

The project we implemented had the main objective of combating the growing Euroscepticism among young people and strengthening their civic engagement within the European Union. We aimed to provide participants with a better understanding of what the EU offers its citizens and to encourage them to actively engage in defending their rights, responsibilities, and their role in shaping the future of Europe. Our project pursued several specific goals: -Understanding the opportunities offered by the EU: We wanted young participants to concretely grasp the advantages that the European Union provides, particularly through programs like Erasmus+. This was intended to help them realize the many opportunities for personal and professional development that the EU makes available to them. -Supporting the social integration of young people: By providing them with tools and knowledge, we aimed to help young people better understand their role in society, integrate, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. It was crucial for them to become aware of their place as European citizens. -Encouraging active youth participation: We wanted to inspire young people to become agents of change, actively engage in defending their rights, and play a key role in shaping the future of Europe. Their active participation within their communities and at a European level was central to our approach. -Strengthening understanding of democracy and citizenship concepts: It was essential to develop a better understanding of democracy, citizenship, and participation among the participants, so they could engage in political and social life in an informed way. -Combating ignorance and Euroscepticism: One of our main objectives was to fight the ignorance surrounding the European Union and promote a positive attitude toward European integration. We sought to counter disinformation and demonstrate the tangible benefits of EU membership. -Raising awareness of the EU's social challenges: We aimed to raise awareness among young people about the social challenges the EU faces, encouraging them to think critically and take action to address the problems encountered by European society. -Promoting diversity and intercultural dialogue: The project aimed to foster participants’ openness to cultural diversity and stimulate their ability to engage in dialogue on social and cultural issues. We wanted them to develop their critical thinking skills while adopting a positive attitude toward Europe’s multiculturalism. Finally, the choice of La Réunion as the location for the youth exchange, a French overseas territory marked by low participation in European elections and influenced by euroscepticism, was strategic. By encouraging the young participants to interact within this context, we aimed to strengthen their sense of belonging to European identity and encourage them to take action for a shared European future, even outside the continent. Thus, through this project, our ultimate goal was to raise European awareness among young people, equip them to become active and engaged citizens, and contribute to the fight against euroscepticism, especially with the upcoming European elections in 2024.
