The "Beyond the 2024 Olympics, games to bring us closer together" project is a European meeting of young people - young people from the town of Saint-Egrève and those from our twinned towns of Krnov, Leini, Minsk-Mazowiecki and Telsiai - that we wanted to create from 12 to 17 June 2024. It enabled them to live together by sharing and/or discovering the values linked to Olympism as well as those of European citizenship. Through team sports encounters, as well as cultural outings, the participants were able to discover our culture and exchange views on each other's lifestyles. They were also able to reflect on the Olympic values of Citius - Altius - Fortius - faster, higher and stronger together - and the values that sport can bring them, such as friendship, equality, perseverance, team spirit and solidarity. Saint-Egrève is 6km from Grenoble, the Olympic city where the 1968 Winter Olympics were held, and which has preserved its sporting heritage and tradition. It was awarded the TERRE DE JEUX (LAND OF GAMES) label on 15/10/2021, a label awarded in partnership with the Paris 2024 Olympic Games Organising Committee to highlight the work of towns that are committed to sport for all, that make commitments for the future, particularly in favour of women's sport and equality through sport, and that ensure that young people meet through sport. To facilitate access to sport for all, the town council decided to create new play areas and sand pitches to enable everyone to take part in sporting activities on these pitches: beach volleyball, beach hand or beach football (beach soccer), and it also created a skate park open to all. It also wanted to ensure that young women had access to sport and to work with them to overcome the barriers that prevent them from doing so. Through this project, the City wanted to encourage young people who are far removed from sports clubs to exchange ideas and open up to different cultures, to share common experiences by practising sport together using simple rules and to exchange ideas about their sporting practices, but also to enable all the young participants to experience European mobility and encounters, to discover people with different cultures, to introduce them to French culture and to present their own. As far as sport was concerned, the notions of elitism and nation versus nation competition were set aside because they did not meet the expectations of the project. Instead, during each activity, each team was made up of young people from each country. The town wanted to develop the self-confidence of its young people during this exchange, by offering them a suitable and secure context. For the participating towns, the project created a mobility dynamic for their young people, offering them a window on Europe, an opportunity to showcase their town, their country and their culture to the outside world, to promote amateur sporting activities by young people in each of the towns and to raise young people's awareness of openness to and knowledge of others. The town of Saint-Egrève wanted to enable each group to represent their town by promoting the notion of European citizenship and the values of Europe, and to raise awareness of European issues among the town's residents by enabling them to meet these young people, discover their towns and share their Erasmus + Youth experience with them. The exchange took place during the 100th anniversary celebrations of the Saint-Egrève sports union, which showcased the association's twenty or so sports in major Olympiads. The youngsters were also able to visit the Winter Olympics venues in Grenoble and the surrounding mountains. They also took part in workshops on gender equality and disability awareness.
