The Twinning Eco Games project, initiated by the Twinning Committee of Angoulême - Foreign cities in partnership with the Grand Angoulême Athlétisme sports association, was inspired by the Paris 2024 Olympic Games to focus on raising awareness among young adults from Angoulême and its twinned towns and surrounding areas about ecology and eco-responsibility within the context of sports. It also aimed to strengthen their sense of European belonging, while promoting intercultural exchanges and the development of interpersonal skills such as cooperation and teamwork. Furthermore, by bringing together young people, volunteers and local partners, the Twinning Committee of Angouleme was demonstrating its broader intention to raise awareness of European issues and sustainable development objectives among local residents of all ages, through entertaining activities and intercultural encounters. It also wanted to create and/or develop new synergies between structures in different European countries, in order to initiate long-term partnerships.
