The Youth for Water and Climate (YWCP) program, led by Solidarity Water Europe in partnership with six European organizations from Hungary, Romania, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Greece, and the Netherlands, pursued two main objectives: to strengthen a European youth partnership dedicated to water and climate issues, and to support young Europeans in acquiring the cross-cutting and specific skills necessary to build a career in this sector. This programme stems from a simple yet fundamental observation: traditional academic programs rarely offer training that combines technical expertise, leadership, intercultural cooperation, and civic engagement. However, it is precisely these combined skills that employers in the water and climate sector are seeking, particularly in an increasingly complex geopolitical context. Faced with this reality - already visible at the start of the programme, but which has since intensified considerably with the proliferation of international crises and the weakening of the international development sector, significantly linked to water and climate issues - the YWCP was designed as a bridge between conventional education and the professional world, offering young people a practical, immersive learning environment grounded in the realities of the sector. By bringing together young people from seven European countries and from diverse academic and professional backgrounds - engineers, law students, communication students, political science students, entrepreneurs, and doctoral candidates - the project aimed to create a rich intersectoral dialogue, build lasting professional networks, and foster a new generation of agile and committed professionals, ready to actively contribute to building a world where access to water is guaranteed for all.
