We launched the "Self Care to Earth Care" project because we firmly believed that environmental ethics is an essential skill for individuals in today's society. The project's goal and objective were to foster responsibility among young people. With the youth exchange program "Self Care to Earth Care," our aim was to cultivate a sense of environmental responsibility among our young participants. We recognized that youth engagement had the power to shape their perspectives and instill values such as sustainability, conservation, and prioritizing our planet. By equipping them with knowledge and skills, we aspired for them to become advocates for these causes within their communities. Furthermore, the project’s structure allowed us to create a platform to promote intercultural dialogue. Participants from diverse backgrounds had the opportunity to share their experiences, traditions, and perspectives on self-care and environmental care. This not only enriched their worldview but also equipped them with essential interpersonal skills necessary for effective intercultural communication. The active engagement of young people during the project played a significant role in their social and personal growth. Through well-designed activities, group discussions, and personal reflection exercises, participants explored topics such as self-care, resilience, leadership, and teamwork. The project aimed to provide individuals with opportunities to take on challenges, solve problems, and develop personally and socially. Youth work went beyond simply transmitting knowledge; it focused on skill acquisition. Participants had the opportunity to engage in activities that strengthened skills such as project management, the use of advocacy tools for environmental protection, public speaking, and sustainable living practices. These skills not only contributed to their growth but also empowered them to initiate similar projects in their respective areas. At the end of the project, our objective was to build a network of environmental advocates equipped with the tools and motivation needed to drive change. The principles of youth work emphasized community building. Through this project, we aspired to create a community united by a common goal: environmental conservation. Instead of treating care as a separate subject, our intention was for participants to integrate it into their daily routines. The project explored ways in which young people could practice sustainability in their lives, from mindful consumption to waste reduction. From the perspective of youth work, we understood the profound impact that habits developed during youth could have. Therefore, this objective held significant importance. We believed that the collective intelligence of a group surpassed the knowledge of its individual members. By embracing the spirit of collaboration characteristic of youth work, we encouraged participants to share their knowledge, resources, and best practices regarding environmental care, creating a dynamic learning environment. Young voices are often underrepresented on larger platforms. Our project sought to change this by ensuring that participants not only engaged in advocacy but also had opportunities to express their perspectives on more prominent stages. Through our understanding of youth work principles, we recognized the importance of representation and strived to provide platforms where their voices were heard and valued. The success of our project was measured by its ability to be replicated and adapted by other youth groups. We aimed to document our processes, challenges, successes, and lessons learned in a way that could serve as a guide for other youth groups pursuing similar initiatives. Our "Self Care to Earth Care" initiative focused on maintaining long-term engagement among participants beyond the project’s duration. The youth exchange aimed to balance personal development, skill acquisition, environmental advocacy, and intercultural dialogue. By providing resources and knowledge, we hoped to inspire in them a passion for environmental conservation that transcends borders and leads to tangible impact.
