As a youth organization, we wanted to highlight the commitment, participation, and involvement of young people engaged in our organization and in partner organizations (territorial network), who were working for the benefit of young people in the Pays de la Loire region. On a daily basis, we supported young volunteers, active citizens, or young people who had experienced living abroad, who came to share their experiences, their journeys, and their willingness to commit themselves. Following the various exchanges with them and the interest that young people showed in this peer-to-peer sharing, the objectives of the project naturally emerged: to enable young people to exchange, debate, and create together on topics that matter to them. Through the implementation of the WAVES project, we wanted young people to be able to address engagement, citizenship, self-expression, and civic participation in their concrete, everyday, and European dimensions. More broadly, the results aimed to: For the core group: Develop skills and knowledge on European citizenship, self-expression, and civic participation Create workshops, activities, and tools to strengthen young people’s relationship with engagement, citizenship, and civic participation Foster dialogue among European youth from all backgrounds, in the region, on issues that unite and mobilize them Raise awareness among marginalized young people (in particular NEETs and JAMO) about citizenship and participation Make information accessible by adapting popular education tools to the target audience For the event participants: Build knowledge on skills, institutions, and how the European Union works Take part in the creation and facilitation of workshops, activities, and tools to strengthen young people’s relationship with engagement, citizenship, and civic participation Develop civic uses of digital tools Gain skills in facilitation and the running of debate workshops Build a European network of young people committed to democracy and civic participation at different levels For the beneficiaries: Acquire keys to understanding democracy in its practical dimensions, and knowledge of forms of civic participation Identify their commitments and their own definition of active citizenship Develop their capacity for action and critical thinking For all young people connected to the project: Facilitate the creation of spaces for discussion, debate, and defining youth citizenship (particularly European) Promote participation in public debate for all Give visibility to young people’s engagement and citizenship Create opportunities for young people involved in the project to meet with political decision-makers Develop knowledge and understanding of major current societal issues and democratic processes Provide a platform to amplify the voices of young people Raise awareness among youth about local, national, European, and international mobility
