Thanks to the support it provides each year to young people involved in voluntary service, civic service and ESC projects, and more generally to young people in the region, Concordia Auvergne is able to identify the specific needs of young people who are increasingly powerless in the face of the current state of the world (war in Ukraine, Covid 19, climate change and its consequences, political uncertainties, etc.). This permanent uncertainty and the difficulty of finding one's place in a constantly changing world very often plunge young people into a state of anxiety that can even lead to real disorders that prevent them from realising their personal and professional projects. This youth participation project, designed in conjunction with ESC volunteers, involved workshops to raise awareness of peace, interculturality, respect for diversity and, more generally, respect for the European values promoted by the EU institutions. The aim was to give the young people affected a caring and respectful space in which to express themselves freely without judgement, to help them understand the importance and role of the European institutions in our daily lives, the pillar values that bring us all together as European citizens, to revitalise the desire to put their voice back at the centre of society and also to regain confidence in civic engagement, individually and collectively, as a means of taking concrete action in the society around us. In the run-up to the European elections, the project took stock of the European feeling among young people in Auvergne, gathering their views via a questionnaire on how they would like to see the Europe of the future, and the priorities to be considered for a more inclusive and sustainable society that takes account of the needs of its young people. The P.E.A.C.E. project has also helped to strengthen the links between the local organisations that host our CES volunteers and those that have opened their doors to host the awareness-raising workshops (schools, social centres, local missions, etc.), and to increase the sharing of values such as cooperation, interculturality, solidarity, tolerance and peace, which are also the founding pillars of our association. The mobility to Brussels and Strasbourg of 16 young local people supported by Concordia Auvergne also helped them to gain a better understanding of the history of the European Union, the role and work of the European institutions, the tools for democratic participation already available to European citizens, and to discuss with European Parliament officials the issues at stake in the June 2024 elections and the possible consequences of the scenarios that were taking shape.
