The project "Facilitating and Strengthening Youth Participation and Mobility in the Rural Area of Nouvelle-Aquitaine 2024" aimed to enable isolated young people with limited opportunities in rural areas to actively engage both within their local community and in the context of European solidarity. Through various participatory activities, young people had the opportunity to become engaged actors and responsible European citizens, contributing to societal challenges such as the environment and the building of an inclusive and just society. The main objectives of the project were as follows: • Acquisition of cross-cutting knowledge and skills: Young people actively participated in the organization of daily and collective life at the Maison des Bateleurs-Solidarités Jeunesses (MDBSJ). This space was a place of social and cultural diversity where young people rediscovered themselves and others, while experimenting with concepts of engagement, citizenship, and participatory democracy. • Local solidarity engagement: The project encouraged independent engagement through the "local solidarity" activity, aimed at developing intersocial and intergenerational bonds at the local level. • Personal and professional stepping-stone experience: Thanks to the various activities offered, young people also received personalized support for their future, including actions such as internship searches and orientation towards other organizations. They participated in educational sessions on civic topics, approached from the perspective of popular education. • Thematic workshops to rebuild self-confidence: Workshops on societal topics such as gender, interculturality, food, communication, and discrimination, as well as permaculture, helped raise the young people's ecological awareness and sensitize them to sustainable farming practices. In addition to their ethical and environmental aspects, these activities contributed to strengthening the self-esteem of the young participants. • Openness of mind and European civic engagement: The young people were involved in several stages. First, they co-organized a weekend event for their peers, addressing themes of international solidarity, interculturality, and preparation for mobility. Then, they exchanged with a group of young people from Armenia, broadening their horizons. Finally, ten young people had the opportunity to participate in a two-week project in Italy focused on international solidarity, before hosting a group of Italian youth at the MDBSJ. This experience allowed the local young people to act as guides for their Italian peers. • Encouraging them to become ambassadors of the project: The young people had the opportunity to become ambassadors of the project by participating in an event day open to the local population, partners, and political decision-makers. This was an opportunity to showcase their experience and share their journey during forums or activities in schools in the rural area.
