Objectives

Objectives of "Große Semaine" Nevers/Koblenz 2024 Strengthening Intercultural Exchange and Franco-German Cooperation One of the core objectives of "Große Semaine" is to facilitate encounters and interaction between young French and German individuals to enhance their mutual understanding and intercultural skills. By bringing together young journalists from both countries, the project aims to strengthen historical and cultural ties between the twin cities of Nevers and Koblenz. These exchanges allow participants to explore varied perspectives and gain a deeper understanding of the social and cultural realities of each country. During the immersive stays, participants were encouraged to share viewpoints, collaborate on content creation, and experience working in Franco-German pairs. This approach has fostered friendships and collaborations that can continue beyond the project and contribute to building an active and engaged European citizenship. Promoting Sustainable and Ethical Tourism In a context where mass tourism is increasingly questioned for its negative impacts on the environment and local communities, "Große Semaine" seeks to offer an alternative. The goal is to promote more respectful, sustainable, and inclusive tourism through the creation of a bilingual guide that highlights eco-friendly sites and initiatives in the regions of Nevers and Koblenz. The young journalists worked on articles, reports, and interviews highlighting local players committed to sustainable development, soft mobility, short supply chains, and environmental respect. By promoting these initiatives, the guide aims to positively influence the tourism perception of the partner cities and encourage travelers to explore lesser-known, more authentic aspects of these regions. This guide serves as both an awareness tool for younger audiences and a model for alternative tourism across the region. Developing Professional Skills for Young People "Große Semaine" is above all an educational and professionalizing project. The young participants, aged 18 to 30, were selected for their interest in journalism, media, and environmental issues. Through an immersive experience, the project provided them with the opportunity to develop essential skills in field journalism, photography, and content writing for sustainable tourism. Guided by media professionals from the Dijon magazine Sparse, the participants engaged in practical workshops on various aspects of journalism and media production. They learned to structure articles, conduct interviews, capture quality images, and edit their work to make it relevant and appealing to the target audience. This experience is a significant asset for their resumes, demonstrating their ability to work as a team, adapt to intercultural situations, and manage a project independently. Enhancing Visibility and Recognition of Twin City Partnerships The project aims to strengthen partnerships between Nevers and Koblenz, two cities united by their twinning and shared history. "Große Semaine" seeks to increase visibility for local initiatives within these regions by using the guide as a medium for mutual promotion. Local institutions, businesses, and associations had the opportunity to be featured, thereby enhancing the attractiveness of both cities and contributing to their economic development. Furthermore, the project includes an official presentation of the guide at its launch event, with the participation of local officials, representatives of partner institutions, and the young journalists. This moment of advocacy before elected officials highlights the importance of supporting sustainable tourism initiatives and international cooperation. By incorporating this advocacy dimension, "Große Semaine" goes beyond mere content production and aims to inspire local policymakers to adopt more sustainable policies.
