Objectives

At the time of our candidature, MDE40 WIPSEE was runnings another ERASMUS+ Youth Participation Activities project entitled "Eurovillages", in which the young European participants mentioned that they don't trust voting processes because they constantly hear the idea that voting won't change anything in society, let alone in their local environment. We corroborated this observation with the young people mobilized in our volunteer campus and Comité Jeunes: the conclusions are indisputable! Young people were asking themselves the same question: Is my vote useful? In addition, between June 6 and 9, 2024, the citizens of the 27 countries that make up the European Union were called upon to exercise one of their main rights: voting. However, one of the main challenges was to increase the percentage of participation, which averaged just 50.66% in 2019. In this sense, one of the demographic groups that historically has a low participation rate are young people aged 18 to 25. Therefore, with this project “Is my vote useful?” we set up the following objectives proposed by young people to be accomplished between January 2024 and March 2025 : Encourage the participation of young people, offering them opportunities to get involved and learn more about the value, possibilities and results of voting. Raise young people's awareness of common European values through the fundamental right to vote. Improve and develop young people's digital skills and media literacy to navigate information, particularly during election periods. Improve the link and transparency between decision-makers and young voters, even beyond election campaigns, to reduce distrust of democratic processes. By working towards these 4 objectives, our project aimed to contribute to 5 priorities defined as part of the EU dialogue on youth and the European objectives for youth. -Youth Goal #1 Connecting EU with Youth -YG #4 Information & Constructive Dialogue -YG #6 Moving Rural Youth Forward -YG #8 Quality Learning -YG #9 Space and Participation for All This project bringed together 5 complementary youth partners, creating a Franco-Spanish-Swedish-Czech-Bulgarian European cooperation. This plurality offered the possibility of bringing together hundreds of young people from different socio cultural backgrounds around shared activities: 10 local events to meet decision-makers and bodies/institutions encouraging democracy, 2 transnational mobilities to get closer to European institutions and promote European values, and 2 awareness-raising campaigns aimed at young people and the general public. We wanted visible and lasting results, with a strong local impact and a subsequent impact on a European scale. The communication tools and methods envisaged helped us to bring changes in the attitudes of young people and those around them, to a more confident consideration of voting and democracy. Our project "Is my vote useful?" ran for 15 months, including the European election period as a central element to be promoted and studied, then analyzed and enhanced. As the situation of young people across Europe can be very different, and their specific needs must be taken into account, we made sure that young people were involved at every stage of the implementation and decision-making process of the project. This is how we ensured that our project meets the specific objectives of the Erasmus + program. Through the theme of voting processes, we ensured the promotion of non-formal and informal learning during the mobilities and the active participation of young people during the local events, in which participants were the leading parole takers. At the same time, throughout the project and in all our activities, we integrated the values of equal opportunities, inclusion, diversity and equity. Moreover, with our non-formal learning activities that encouraged young people's voice and action in voting processes and in local and European institutions, we were be able to contribute to several Sustainable Development Goals including #16 "Peace, Justice and Effective Institutions". In addition, by introducing sustainable, ecological and egalitarian practices in the course of our activities, we contribute to the objectives of ODD n° 5, 11, 12 and 13. The actions implemented included regular contact with decision-makers, elected representatives and policy-makers, with the aim of reducing fractures and mistrust between the world of youth and the world of politics. The project's apolitical approach gave young people the freedom to form their own opinions and vote according to their conscience, informed by their own research, questioning and analysis.
