Objectives

The aim of the “Plan d'Action Jeunesse, Europe et Sport (PAJES)” project was to empower young people, encourage their participation in European democratic life and promote dialogue with decision-makers, as well as between and with young people themselves. The project was spearheaded by ANESTAPS, the only organization in France representing young people wishing to enter the sports and entertainment professions. PAJES was born of two observations. The first was that young people are too far removed from democracy, and do not participate in the decisions that concern them. However, young people are committed to their own causes (gender equality, the fight against discrimination and ecological transition), as shown by the work carried out by young people in the ANESTAPS and ANECAFYDE networks. The second observation was that young people don't feel they are European citizens, and know virtually nothing about how the EU works or its values. This is why the PAJES project was built around three precise stages, in different formats: the creation of political positions, physical events to promote or disseminate them, and activities designed by young people for young people. With the European elections in June 2024 just around the corner, the timing was perfect for ANESTAPS, with its advantageous momentum. The aim of this project was to give sports policies a more central place in European programs, as a vector of health and well-being for the population. But also to assert the place of young people in this process, with a voice and legitimate positions. At the dawn of the European University Alliances, we couldn't imagine this project without the Erasmus agency and its expertise, so that together we could establish solutions for an active, inclusive, responsible and civic-minded youth. To sum up, through the PAJES project, we wanted to achieve : - Raising awareness, by young people and for young people, of European social issues and the workings of the EU, through training projects and events; - Encouraging young people to think for themselves, and to take an active part in political decisions and positions, in order to revive an ideal and a sense of European citizenship; - Close-up exchanges and work sessions between Europe's political decision-makers and young people; - The emancipation and credibility of young people's voices through a collection of positions. - A Franco-Spanish collaboration, with the help of our ANECAFYDE counterparts for a wider impact - Helping young people understand the importance of voting and current European political issues. Most importantly, getting young people to vote In short, it was essential to instill in young people the values of sport, such as inclusion, tolerance and the fight against discrimination. In addition, understanding the workings of European institutions highlighted the importance of political free will and European elections. The meeting between MEPs and young people was an exceptional opportunity to create a mutual awareness that young people need to be active in European society if they want to be heard and have their priority issues addressed. By encouraging the active participation of young people in European society, ANESTAPS was able to raise awareness among political decision-makers of issues specific to them, including physical activity and sport. By bringing together MEPs and young people, constructive discussions have emerged, leading to a better understanding of young people's concerns and needs. This could now lead to more inclusive policies and decisions that truly reflect young people's interests. It was, and remains, fundamental that young people's voices be heard, and that their issues be addressed fairly and equitably. By actively involving them, we have been able to contribute to a fairer, more egalitarian and more cohesive European society.
