In carrying out this project, our objectives were to: 1) Foster critical reflection among young people in the EU on addressing crises through social innovation and youth participation, with food security as the main subject of discussion and challenge. 2) Empower them as agents of change by providing project management tools, enabling them to co-create solutions that work better for their communities through a bottom-up approach. 3) Identify good practices and build a transferable toolbox that can be shared with other young people and applied in other ecological transition projects across the European Union. In addition, as organizations, we aimed to strengthen transnational cooperation and learn from each other’s professional cultures.
We applied to the project “Food for Thought: Empowering European Youth through Cooperative Solutions” because food insecurity is a growing challenge in Europe, one that particularly affects young people. Our aim was to engage youth, who are both vulnerable and carriers of solutions, to help them gain a deeper understanding of the root causes of this issue and to co-create sustainable responses. The project has helped catalyze youth initiatives in the ecological transition and strengthened their critical thinking, civic engagement, and green skills, in order to envision more resilient food systems in the face of crises and climate change. By fostering youth-led social innovation and building bridges between research, citizenship, and practice, our ambition was to equip them with the means to take concrete action for fairer and more sustainable European communities.
