Objectives

By implementing this project, our aim was to create a supportive and safe space where young people can freely express their needs, ideas, emotions, and concerns about social networks and online life. In recognizing the profound impact of the digital world on today’s youth, our project aimed to respond directly to the identified need for guidance in navigating this complex space. Many young people feel both empowered and overwhelmed by the digital environment, often struggling with issues such as misinformation, online bullying, perfectionism, and self-worth—all of which can significantly affect mental health, emotional intelligence, and personal development. Project objectives were: a) To increase understanding of new technologies, internet and especially social networks, how they function and what are their good and bad sides b) To support reflection and analysing own behaviours and behaviours of other young people on social networks c) To support competences development and understanding of emotional intelligence by exploring each of its 5 components and making correlation with social networks d) To create safe space for sharing and exchanging of experiences related to using internet and social networks, with emphasis on emotions they are triggering e) To improve participants critical thinking and approach to technology, internet and social media through development of media literacy competences f) To contribute to marking of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day by developing mini campaigns focused on raising awareness of advantages and disadvantages of internet and social networks The objectives focused on fostering emotional intelligence, digital literacy, and critical thinking skills to empower young people to rationalize their online behaviors and enhance their online safety. By supporting the development of these competencies, we addressed key challenges posed by the online world, where formal education often falls short. By this project we wanted to provided non-formal learning opportunities for young people to reflect on and analyse their own behaviours and those of others online, building skills that contribute to healthier online interactions and a greater understanding of digital dynamics. Finally, our goal was to help young people make informed choices, focusing on the positive aspects of technology for personal and professional growth while minimizing potential harms. This project, therefore, met an essential need for practical, reflective, and supportive resources in navigating a digitally dominated world.
