Physical and mental health, well-being

Objectives

By implementing the project, we aimed to address the growing trend among young people of spending excessive time indoors, leading to a sedentary lifestyle and limited engagement with outdoor activities. We recognized, together with our partner organizations, the need for young people to come together, communicate, and connect, as well as develop self-awareness through meaningful relationships and shared experiences. The "E-Generation," having grown up in a digital age dominated by screens, computers, the internet, and social media, had become accustomed to a lifestyle marked by excessive screen time. The primary goal of the project was to reintroduce young people to the outdoors by providing them with opportunities to explore and reconnect with nature. We emphasized the importance of spending time in natural settings for maintaining mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Through activities like walking in nature and light trekking—versatile outdoor pursuits accessible to almost everyone—we sought to demonstrate the numerous benefits these activities offer. Additionally, we sought to equip young participants with practical knowledge regarding outdoor activities, covering essential topics such as equipment selection, route planning, trail markers, appropriate clothing and footwear, necessary supplies, and safety precautions. By doing so, we aimed to ensure that potential risks could be avoided, enabling young people to feel confident and safe while engaging with nature. Leveraging the extensive experience of our organization and partner organizations, we devised an outdoor experiential learning program. This program was designed to foster personal, social, and environmental interactions among young people from diverse cultural and national backgrounds. It was specifically crafted to transcend cultural and traditional barriers, thereby promoting mutual understanding and intercultural dialogue. The project was implemented in Kunbaracs, HU chosen for its natural setting adjacent to a forest, providing an ideal environment for light hikes and nature walks. The venue offered an excellent opportunity for the young participants to engage with nature while building connections with peers, fostering personal growth, and deepening their understanding of environmental stewardship. In the framework of the project we have reached the following objectives: O1. By the end of the mobility, 40 young people from Hungary, Romania, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia had developed a heightened cultural awareness through meaningful conversations with peers from diverse national backgrounds. O2. The 40 young participants had been motivated to actively engage in outdoor activities, fostering interaction and camaraderie during nature treks. O3. Awareness had been increased among 200 young individuals from the four partner communities regarding the positive impacts of spending time in nature and the value of meaningful discussions during trekking experiences. The objectives of this project were closely linked to the program's overall goals and reflected the permanent priorities of the program related to youth participation. The project had been closely aligned with the objectives of the Erasmus+ program and Youth Exchanges. It aimed to enhance key competences and skills relevant to building a unified society, particularly in line with KA1 in the youth field. The project focused on self-empowerment and boosting self-esteem by placing young people at the center of the learning process, encouraging them to take leadership roles. It also aimed to foster intercultural dialogue, teamwork, and collaboration, while addressing prejudices and stereotypes. By engaging youth from Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia, the project promoted peer learning and the development of positive attitudes. Aligned with the EU Youth Strategy 2019-2027, the project empowered young people to take control of their lives, building resilience and life skills to face a changing world. It promoted social inclusion by engaging young people with fewer opportunities, encouraging mental health, physical activity, and healthy lifestyles. The project contributed to achieving European Youth Goals, particularly: - Youth Goal no. 5, by motivating youth to engage in outdoor activities for improved health and well-being. - Youth Goal no. 8, by offering experiential learning opportunities, ensuring reflection and holistic learning. - Youth Goal no. 10, by advocating eco-friendly outdoor activities and safe hiking practices. Additionally, the project supported the Inclusion and Diversity Strategy by including 20 participants with fewer opportunities in the youth exchange, promoting inclusivity and diversity. It actively worked to break down barriers for these young people, ensuring their involvement in transnational projects.
