Objectives

The "Crafts Workshop" project aimed to support the social and economic integration of young people with fewer opportunities. The project was based on locally identified challenges faced by young people excluded from the traditional education system, those with mild intellectual disabilities, and those with special educational needs when entering the labor market. In recent years, it has become increasingly evident in Jászberény and its surrounding areas that these young people, after leaving the school system, do not receive adequate support to successfully find employment and actively participate as citizens in local community processes. The project’s goal was to equip participating young people with skills and knowledge that promote their labor market success as well as their community and social integration. The activities implemented with the involvement of the Lehel Youth Organization (formerly the Jászberény Youth Municipality) aimed to strengthen young people’s self-confidence, develop their employability-related competencies, provide insight into labor market expectations, introduce them to opportunities for community participation, and encourage them to actively engage in local decision-making processes. The specific objectives of the project were: • Increasing young people's employability: raising awareness of the skills essential for success in the labor market. • Promoting the social integration of young people with fewer opportunities: the project aimed to pay particular attention to young people facing geographical, economic, or social disadvantages. Our goal was to provide them with opportunities that could facilitate their social integration and future successful employment. • Encouraging community participation and democratic engagement: one of the project’s core objectives was to prepare young people to become active citizens and provide them with opportunities to participate in local community and decision-making processes. • Raising social awareness and developing empathy: the project placed special emphasis on sensitizing decision-makers regarding the life situations of young people with fewer opportunities. The Lehel Youth Organization played an active role in implementing the project, serving as an intermediary between the participating young people and local decision-makers. Through this organization, young people not only gained insight into decision-making processes but also had a direct opportunity to take part in shaping their communities and engage in local social life in the long term. Beyond the individual development of the participating young people, the project also aimed to have a positive impact on the local community by strengthening youth participation, supporting the labor market integration of disadvantaged young people, and promoting dialogue between local decision-makers, employers, and young people. The project’s strategic objectives were fully aligned with the priorities of Erasmus+, ensuring that young people become inclusive, digitally competent, and active citizens who consciously shape their own future and contribute to the development of their communities.
