The main goal of the "Active Youth IV" project, implemented by the Youth for the Nation Foundation, was to encourage young people’s participation in public life and promote their more conscious involvement in community roles. The project built on the experiences gained during the previous "Active Youth II" and "III" projects, delving deeper into the problems and outcomes identified earlier. The focus was on uncovering the causes of youth passivity and exploring ways to motivate them toward civic engagement. The primary objectives of the project were as follows: Thorough examination of youth inactivity causes using surveys and focus group discussions. Earlier research highlighted that young people’s opinions often go unnoticed, and many youths themselves feel insufficiently motivated to participate. Understanding these reasons in depth was crucial. Providing opportunities for participants to meet local, regional, and national decision-makers directly. Building such personal connections was essential for fostering dialogue, benefiting both the youth and decision-makers. Not only identifying the causes of inactivity but also enhancing young people's skills to become more active and conscious citizens. Participants were supported with concrete examples, stories, and best practices to increase their engagement. Although primarily conducted in Hungary, the project included international dimensions, such as showcasing the values of European citizenship. Participants gained insights into initiatives promoting youth engagement in other European countries. A comprehensive study was prepared based on the data collected during the research, which was made available online. This serves as a valuable resource for both domestic and international youth policy decision-makers. Examples of outcomes: During the project, for instance, a young person from Debrecen, who previously observed local government activities passively, decided to join a local youth organization after participating in focus group discussions. Another participant, from Komárom, mentioned that they never thought their opinion could make a difference. However, during the program, they met a local representative to whom they shared their ideas and later received feedback. Quantifiable goals of the project included: Recruiting 10 new young volunteers for the organization. Organizing 5 focus group discussions nationwide, with 15 participants per session. Creating 3 youth programs totaling at least 11 days, including outreach at festivals with significant youth interest. Involving at least 5 decision-makers. Directly engaging at least 550 members of the target group. Ensuring at least 450 young people completed the online questionnaire for the research. Organizing 1 dissemination conference as the project’s conclusion.
