Objectives

The project “Mediterranean Flavor: Cultural Exchange through Cuisine” was born from the idea of enhancing Mediterranean cuisine as an educational, cultural, and social tool. In a European context characterized by cultural diversity but also by common challenges, we wanted to create a meeting space where young people could interact, learn, and collaborate through the universal language of food. The main objectives of the project were multiple and closely interconnected: Promote intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding: through the exchange of culinary and cultural experiences, participants from six countries had the opportunity to get to know each other better, break down stereotypes and prejudices, and build positive bonds based on respect and collaboration. Strengthen young people’s culinary and practical skills: the activities included Mediterranean cooking workshops, sharing of traditional recipes, and in-depth exploration of typical ingredients and preparation techniques. These skills not only enrich everyday life but can also serve as a resource for possible future career paths. Raise awareness of food sustainability and healthy lifestyles: one of the central axes of the project was the exploration of sustainable agricultural practices, the importance of consuming local and seasonal products, and the role of the Mediterranean diet in promoting health. Young people reflected on how food choices can have an impact on the environment and society. Encourage active participation and responsibility among young people: participants were involved in all phases of the project – from preparation to implementation – in order to develop initiative, organizational capacity, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Stimulate creativity and innovation: through culinary challenges, group work, and the creation of an online cookbook, young people were encouraged to propose new ideas, combine tradition and innovation, and develop a creative approach to cooking. Create a lasting impact: the project aimed to leave a mark on the lives of participants and their communities. For this reason, strong attention was devoted to dissemination, with local events, articles, digital content, and follow-up activities designed to transfer the knowledge and skills acquired to other young people. Foster inclusion and diversity: the project guaranteed equal opportunities for participation, with particular attention to young people with fewer opportunities and to gender balance, promoting an environment that was welcoming and respectful of differences. Promote Erasmus+ as an opportunity for growth: through this exchange, young people were able to directly experience the values and objectives of the Erasmus+ programme, understanding the importance of international mobility for both personal and professional development. In summary, the overall objective of the project was to combine culture, health, and sustainability through Mediterranean cuisine, transforming it into a tool for non-formal education, intercultural dialogue, and personal growth. The experience contributed to spreading fundamental European values such as tolerance, respect, solidarity, and cooperation, while creating an engaging learning path with a strong social impact.
