Objectives

The "Harmony in Diversity" project aimed to celebrate and transmit intangible cultural heritage, particularly folk dances, as unique expressions of each country's traditions. Folk dances represent some of the most profound and deep-rooted cultural forms, conveying stories, emotions, and values embedded within their communities of origin. The project sought to collect and enhance these traditions by fostering dialogue among different peoples through their artistic expressions, with the goal of promoting inclusivity, mutual respect, and cultural diversity. Specific Objectives: 1. Preservation and Promotion of Cultural Heritage: The primary objective was to preserve and promote traditional folk dances from Italy, Malta, and Turkey, facilitating their transmission across generations. Prioritizing their safeguarding through the active participation of dance groups, the project collected data from cultural institutions highlighting the urgent need to protect these forms of expression and revitalize them, making them relevant in contemporary society. During the activities, traditions were promoted, creating opportunities for communities to share their cultural heritage with a broader audience. 2. Intercultural Exchange: A central aspect of the project was strengthening intercultural understanding. The objective was to encourage direct dialogue among dance groups from different nations, aiming to foster unity based on mutual respect and shared experiences. Dances, as a universal language, played a fundamental role in this inclusion process, making the project not only a learning opportunity but also a moment for building strong bonds among youth from diverse backgrounds. 3. Youth Empowerment: The project positively impacted the development of transversal skills among the participating youth. Each group had the opportunity to engage in various activities, taking on roles not only as performers but also as managers of their intercultural experiences, thereby opening up new opportunities for personal growth. 4. Community Engagement: Engaging local communities was a fundamental aspect of the project. Events were organized with active participation from the population, ensuring that local traditions were experienced as a collective and shared resource. Interaction with communities created an environment of reciprocal exchange, where cultural heritage was not only preserved but also revitalized, making the project an opportunity to reinvigorate local traditions. 5. Broadening the Perspective on Folk Dances: Each group had the opportunity to explore and learn about the traditions of other countries, creating a learning and exchange environment that stimulated curiosity and respect for new cultures. This approach highlighted the importance of viewing cultural heritage not as a narrow concept but as a global resource worthy of exploration and sharing at the international level. Results: Participants acquired new skills, engaged with other cultures, and applied their learning through shared artistic performances. The groups not only enriched their repertoires with new dances but also developed organizational, communication, and international collaboration skills. Furthermore, the project had a significant impact on local communities, which benefited from the rediscovery of cultural traditions through participatory activities. Public performances served as moments of cultural exchange and provided the community with opportunities to reflect on their own cultural identity.
