The United by Music project was born from a very real need: to address discrimination and prejudice, which affected many people, especially young people, just because they were seen as “different” because of ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, social background, or origin. We all know that our Constitution, as well as the European Union, protect rights and equality, but in reality there was still a long way to go. During the project, we heard stories of bullying, exclusion, and even violence, often caused by fear or ignorance toward those who are “different.” We wanted to show that this situation can change, starting with young people. For this reason, through the project, we created a safe and creative space where participants could get to know each other, share experiences, and learn to see differences as a strength, not a threat. We chose music as the main tool because it is a universal language that speaks directly to emotions and connects people beyond words. Our idea was to use music and art to: - encourage reflection on important topics such as respect, diversity, and inclusion; - develop empathy towards those who face discrimination or belong to minorities; - give young people a voice, stimulating their creativity and willingness to participate; - build real bonds between young people from different countries, based on trust and collaboration. In the end, we wanted to send a simple but powerful message: we are all different, but we can be united by music, and learn to build together a fairer and more welcoming society for everyone.
