Objectives

The International Youth Encounter "Chasing the Wind – Stormy Future or Tailwind for Change" brought together 27 young people from 5 different companies across Europe, from 14th to 20th of April, to work together to create a performance in Forlì, Italy. Over the exchange week the group worked together with a team of professional artists to create a performance involving theatre, movement, music and song. The young participants had the chance to explore one of the four elements, the wind, as a source of inspiration to spread out their voices about their hopes and their fears, about the changes they want for their own future. The winds and the Earth are changing and the main question was “how can we stand together in the change?”. The creative outcome was shared on Saturday 20th of April. All the group-leaders shared their skills in working together with young people from different parts of Europe. They all shared the same goals, defined by the common Theatre Mediation Programme of University of Agder: to develop innovative skills in Theatre Mediation; to be able to take aesthetic and content ideas from YP to develop it in performance; to have the ability to mediate between young people and professional artists; to face a diversity in the field of youth creative process. The project Chasing the Wind – Stormy Future or Tailwind for Change aimed to achieve several objectives: 1. To support young people in forming an opinion on climate change by exploring two contrasting perspectives: the dangers of a "stormy future" versus the potential for "tailwind for change." The project encouraged participants to search for solutions and improvements through collective action. 2. To empower young people to express their ideas creatively through various artistic disciplines, including singing, writing, acting, puppetry, and music-making. Participants also created their own props, costumes, masks, and puppets, guided by group leaders under the principle of self-expression. 3. To introduce participants to singing as a "form of the wind," providing them with new artistic possibilities and enhancing their creative experiences. 4. To raise awareness of climate change and its impact by focusing on the theme of "wind," which symbolizes both the risks and solutions (e.g., renewable energy). The project also highlighted the significance of climate-related events, such as the severe flood in Forlì, to inspire action. 5. To encourage young people to reflect on inclusive democratic participation and its role in addressing climate change. 6. To create a platform for youth to discuss their future, share personal stories about the visible consequences of climate change in their countries, and make cultural diversity in Europe tangible. 7. To develop participants’ skills and competencies, including creative thinking, critical analysis, communication, and teamwork. 8. To help young people understand how social media functions, including the risks of echo chambers, by providing hands-on experience with the Wind App in a protected environment. 9. To promote intercultural exchange, fostering mutual understanding and connections among participants from diverse backgrounds. 10. To uphold and spread the values of inclusion, respect, and tolerance throughout all activities.
