Objectives

The world experienced many unexpected situations last few years such as the pandemic, the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, high inflation, high housing, migration crises, radicalization, etc. Those situations have deep effects on young people’s mental health deeply, they cause mental issues, social issues, addictions, and more results. Young people from the European Union’s neighboring countries are hopeless of a happy future in their countries. Regarding World Health Organisation (WHO) 4.6% of 15–19-year-olds experience an anxiety disorder. Regarding this, young people need mental and social support from the environment, society, and their peers. We can explain these issues and needs under a few facts: 1- Mental Support: The pandemic affected young people’s mental health deeply, so many young people have to move back to their parents' houses, and it’s created conflicts between youth and parents according lifestyle of those young people. So many people moved sides of the country and migrated to other European countries due to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, and so many people were affected by the war mentally. In our target group, young people struggled with many difficulties such as a new environment, a different culture and language, loneliness, etc. Most of the organizations and states in Europe provide psychological support to these young people but still, mental support is visible. The tragic part of these young people’s story, they passed the effects of the pandemic and war they wanted to create a new life, study, work, etc., especially in most of the scenarios in bigger cities. The young people faced inflation and a lack of housing. Young people need mental support from professionals and the environment, especially young people need to know how they can find true support and process the effects of bad situations. 2- Social Support: The post-pandemic issues affect society mostly on a social level, young people had to lock down in houses during the pandemic and they couldn’t socialise. Most of the young people couldn’t attend their schools for almost 2 years, all these effects change the social environment, norms, and attitudes. So many people migrated to Europe from Ukraine due to the invasion by Russia, this created a new phase in Europe and society. Most European countries stand with Ukraine and support migrants on everything other hand some people are opposed to migrants. This situation created two different needs for young people, first to support socially and ensure social integration of young migrants from Ukraine. Second, to prevent disinformation and radical propaganda about war and Ukrainian migrants. According to that, to increase empathy of young people from Europe to stand with Ukraine. 3- Self Development: The last matter is, that young people face with lack of self-awareness, and it causes mental and social issues. The main need is to increase self-awareness, thus young people will discover their potential such as skills, talents, knowledge, and most importantly abilities. Regarding those explanations of needs and issues, we identified our objectives and why we want to carry out this project. Objectives: 1- To prevent mental, and social issues by improving young people's mental health and resilience 2- To ensure social integration for young people, and prevent post-pandemic social problems 3- To increase young people’s self-awareness by decreasing social and mental issues 4- To improve young people’s empathy with and boost the movement of Stand with Ukraine 5- To provide mental and social support to young people from Ukraine and ensure their integration into Europe Long story short, the project takes inspiration from the European Commission’s event State of Union 2022-2023 objectives, visions, and speech of President Ursula von der Leyen. 1- As we head towards the second full year of war, Europe will remain steadfast and unflinching in its support for Ukraine. We will do so for as long as it takes. (SOTEU, 2023). 2- The EU’s first-ever comprehensive approach to mental health, with concrete actions to promote good mental health for Europeans (SOTEU, 2023). Regarding these speeches, to believe young people will create the future, especially the future of Europe, as organisations we want to prevent mental and social issues of young people by improving their mental health through this project. To encourage young people to stand with Ukraine by promoting European values.
