Objectives

Through the implementation of Guardians of the Green, our primary goal was to empower young people to become proactive stewards of the environment, specifically focusing on the protection and preservation of forests. Recognizing the alarming increase in forest fires across Europe and their devastating environmental, economic, and social impacts, we sought to equip youth with the knowledge, skills, and motivation to address these challenges within their own communities. Our key objectives were: Raise Awareness and Build Knowledge We aimed to deepen participants' understanding of the critical role forests play in maintaining ecological balance, supporting biodiversity, and mitigating climate change. By exploring the causes, consequences, and prevention strategies of forest fires through interactive learning methods, we sought to foster informed and environmentally conscious young citizens. Develop Practical Skills and Build Capacity We focused on providing participants with hands-on training in fire prevention techniques, ecological restoration, and community engagement. These skills were intended to empower youth to take meaningful action in forest conservation efforts and to serve as resources within their own local contexts. Encourage Emotional and Cultural Connection to Nature By organizing field visits to fire-affected areas and promoting intercultural dialogue, we aimed to cultivate a personal and emotional bond with the environment. This approach encouraged empathy, responsibility, and a deeper appreciation of the value and vulnerability of forests. Promote Leadership and Advocacy The project aimed to nurture young leaders capable of advocating for forest preservation and climate action. We provided training in communication, community mobilization, and policy advocacy to enable participants to amplify their voices and inspire others. Foster Sustainable Actions and Long-Term Engagement Our goal was to instill a lasting commitment to environmental protection. We supported participants in developing plans for local initiatives, campaigns, or educational programs that they could carry forward beyond the duration of the project. Facilitate Peer Learning and Mentorship By promoting peer-to-peer learning and establishing mentorship structures, we aimed to ensure the sustainability of the project’s impact. Participants were encouraged to share their knowledge with others, creating a multiplying effect within their networks. Ultimately, we saw Guardians of the Green as a starting point for lasting, youth-led environmental action across Europe. By equipping young people with the tools, knowledge, and inspiration to protect our forests, we aimed to contribute to a broader movement for climate resilience and sustainable living.
