Objectives

Non-Formal Education (NFE) has the flexibility and capacity to adjust to the evolving requirements and circumstances of learners, offering a variety of approaches that ensure inclusivity and empowerment, ultimately fostering motivation for lifelong learning. Together with all the involved partners, we decided to work on developing this project as we believed that, through it, we could address common and specific needs of all partner NGOs and raise awareness about the importance of non-formal methods in youth work, producing a real change in the community that will address learners' needs in a quality way. Specifically, this project was the “second edition” of another successful project implemented by CET Platform Italy in the summer of 2022 (Non Formal Lab), and it was envisaged as continuation of its experiential path by digging deeper into specific NFE methodologies, keeping the core project team/partners, and including new organizations, in order to fit the needs of all the partners and maximize the impact in the youth field. The project, specifically, was made of two mobilities, each with specific objectives: a study visit to witness the hands-on work of experienced organizations delivering theatre-based activities, and a training course for youth workers to develop professional competences within NFE and theatre methods. In this context, our project aimed to become a fruitful space to share, experiment and further develop NFE tools, methods and techniques in youth work practice, specifically focusing on theatre methods and performative acts. These aspects are even more important when it comes the backlashes that COVID-19 had across various sectors of society, including education. As schools, universities and other formal education institutions closed their doors, traditional learning pathways were abruptly interrupted, and NFE became even more crucial to address needs and challenges of the youth field. Specific objectives for this project were: - develop and strengthen the competences of youth workers and NGOs in applying theatre methods within NFE contexts - foster the creation of innovative and inclusive learning environments that utilize NFE and theatre methods to engage diverse groups of young people - support the professional development of youth workers and NGOs, providing them with opportunities to exchange good practices and establish sustainable partnerships - develop the capacity of youth workers and NGOs to effectively evaluate the impact of NFE and theatre-based programs on the development of young people We decided to focus our project on theatre-based methodologies and achieve the identified objectives by providing training and new skills to our youth workers, space for cooperation, partnership building and exchange of good practices, development of innovative tools and methods in working with young people, especially those with fewer opportunities, while at the same time giving space to analyse, reflect and better understand how to impact young people for community development through NFE. The project, indeed, constituted an important source of personal and professional growth in which the participants, as youth workers actively involved in various capacities in the education of young people in their communities, were able to create a fertile ground for contamination between various educational fields, representing an important source of inspiration in the implementation of further activities
