Objectives

The "Video making for the YOUTH" project was born from the needs of youth workers, with the main objective of improving their digital skills. In fact, youth work plays an important role in improving social inclusion and promoting virtuous behaviours among young people. This project has given youth workers the opportunity to strengthen their knowledge of the world of video making, both through the work carried out by the trainers provided for in the project, and through the exchange of experiences, knowledge, and skills among the participants. Video making was the central tool of this project, which is based on non-formal education, as it is perfectly aligned with its fundamental principles, such as experience-based learning and the centrality of the role of participants in the development of activities. Through this project, participants were able to develop some transversal skills. The process of creating a video (from ideation to post-production) required a wide range of skills, including collaboration, communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity. Through the planned activities, participants learned to work in a group, divide tasks, and overcome obstacles creatively. Furthermore, by including dynamic and practical activities in the project, video making was able to capture the attention of youth workers and make them protagonists of their learning journey. In an era where communication is dominated by digital media, it is essential that youth workers and those who work with young people are not just passive consumers. Video making helped them better understand audiovisual language, distinguish between information and disinformation, and become more aware and critical digital citizens, assimilating concepts more deeply and lastingly than traditional learning. Furthermore, creating videos allowed the youth workers to express their opinions and give shape to their vision of the world. Video making became a means of telling the story of the city that hosted them during the project, promoting reflection and self-awareness. A further aim of this project was also to support the activities and actions of the partner organisations active in the field of youth education, as well as to raise awareness among the new generations about EU environmental policies. In particular, the project focused its activities above all on some aspects of environmental policies such as the importance of protecting public green spaces in urban areas, water as a resource to be preserved and not wasted, the reuse and recycling of urban waste, and sustainable mobility. The aim was to propose these topics as the subject of the videos that the youth workers created during the mobility, as they are central themes of European green policies, with the hope of making them more aware of the importance of adopting eco-sustainable behaviours and to push them to raise awareness among the young people active in their sending associations. The project has strengthened the ability of youth workers to develop digital products capable of effectively conveying positive messages among young people. In this way, the theme of mobility (improving professional skills) was strictly linked to the environmental theme, promoting Green Deal policies, especially in the areas of sustainable mobility, biodiversity, and the circular economy. The initiative also intercepted some Youth Goals such as "Sustainable Green Europe" and promoted the territory of Treviso. The city, initially chosen for its candidacy for the European Green Leaf Award (an award it ultimately won), offered the ideal context to show local good practices and facilitate the carrying out of the planned activities. The project was also an opportunity for the partner associations to strengthen their cooperation and update their non-formal education offerings.
