Objectives

“Inclusion through Art” is a training course designed by 5 organizations working in the socio-educational sector: Bubburriga Cultural Association (Italy), Walbrzych Youth Association (Poland), Pangea Youth Association (Turkey), Asociatia Culturala Atelierul European de Arta (Romania) and Aktive Kosmos (Spain). The project was created with the ambition to address the need for youth workers to improve their skills in order to effectively support the inclusion of disadvantaged youth through the adoption of art and nonformal methodologies. “Inclusion through Art” was implemented with the intent to: 1. develop the skills of the 25 participating youth workers in terms of learning and identifying nonformal, artistic, art therapy and inclusive educational methodologies to be replicated in the educational contexts in which they work with youth (knowledge); 2. increase participants' tools through the acquisition of new nonformal education methods capable of using art as a form of expression and vehicle to promote inclusion among youth (skills); 3. strengthen youth workers' self-determination and self-awareness in using art as an effective nonformal education method in youth work (attitude). Our project resulted in the enrichment of the knowledge and skills in art and nonformal education of the youth workers who participated. Youth workers as a result of the training were found to be better prepared in the use of nonformal art methods capable of facilitating the management of groups of youth with fewer opportunities, the target audience in their daily work. In addition, to the specific project objectives, participants have: - broadened their understanding about the meaning of social inclusion and the identification of non-inclusive circumstances in their target contexts; - understood with greater awareness the challenges faced by those with fewer opportunities and learned how to identify specific needs, a necessary condition for responding effectively and accurately; - gained skills and confidence in using art therapy methods as tools capable of connecting with others in a deeper and more authentic way; - developed the ability to apply nonformal education techniques to support inclusiveness in youth work and gained mastery to adapt methods to different contexts; - discovered new ways to conduct participatory workshops to offer to disadvantaged youth and foster their involvement and interest; - listened to success stories that were inspirational and a driving force for taking initiative in their own communities; - learned how to use non-formal arts training methods capable of making their activities more attractive and participatory; - understood the value of self-awareness reflection in daily work, especially with young people who need guides in their learning and self-determination processes.
