Objectives

The project has three well-defined objectives: Raise awareness among participants about European values and contribute to the achievement of EU Youth Goals, particularly focusing on the following points: Point 3: Inclusive societies; Point 4: Information and constructive dialogue; Point 9: Space and participation for all. Provide young participants with concrete opportunities for engagement in democratic life. Offer local administrations practical proposals generated by young people and tailored to their specific needs, which can guide local policies addressing the specific issues identified by the project. These objectives aim to promote European values, encourage active participation in democratic processes among young individuals, and facilitate a collaborative relationship between young citizens and local administrations to address specific local challenges. The project's objectives encompass both the project theme and the methods through which it will be developed. Regarding the project theme, which focuses on the risks associated with the use of social media, the objectives are as follows: Raise awareness and recognition of abuses, both experienced and perpetrated by others. Equip participants with the skills to identify various forms of abuse, including cyberbullying, fake news, education, body image issues, polarization, and privacy concerns. Encourage reflection among young participants on these selected risks and their implications. Collaborate with coaches and experts to develop projects that address these issues and present them to local administrations. Concerning the objectives related to the project's development methods, they pertain to understanding the democratic model. The various participants in the project represent different facets of a democratic society: Young participants represent the general population. Representatives are akin to politicians. Coaches and experts act as sources of information, experiences, and advisors. The Steering Committee oversees the project. Local administrations mirror real-world government entities. The overarching goal is to engage young participants in the political process and enhance their understanding of democratic participation. This is particularly relevant in a country like Italy, where the youth voter turnout has been relatively low, as evidenced by a 42.7% abstention rate in the 18-34 age group during the last elections (source: Corriere della Sera, https://www.corriere.it/sette/politica/22_ottobre_18/viaggio-voto-giovani-poco-eletti-poco-elettori-ecco-perche-partiti-li-ignorano-ricambiati-a7a833a2-4929-11ed-a525-e360fe4fb789.shtml). The project aims to bridge this gap by fostering active involvement in political life among young citizens.
