Objectives

The project idea was born following a three-week experience in the Palestinian territories: A volunteering team within the framework of the ESC project Upside Down – Let’s go to the other side, written and implemented by Giosef Torino. This experience allowed participants to explore different areas of the region (Jordan Valley, Nablus, Hebron, Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Ramallah), witnessing firsthand how social injustice affects the lives of Palestinian people, who suffer injustice and violence on a daily basis. This was the reason why the young people involved wanted to return home and do their part—to become active in their local communities so that other young people could be informed and aware of the situation, and have the same opportunity for active participation on such a vital issue of social justice and human rights. The young women behind the project idea had taken part in the volunteering team project (ESC), and this initiative is intended as a follow-up to Upside Down – Let’s go to the other side. Upon returning to Italy, the group of young people noticed that the Italian media offered an insufficient narrative of Palestine, lacking an objective and critical perspective. This led to the idea of writing this project proposal, with the following goals: Project Objectives: Provide a safe space for young people in Italy involved in the project to discuss and understand the necessity of fighting for social justice, with a specific focus on the Palestinian context. Promote active youth participation in European programs. Facilitate skills development through the use of digital tools to create a social media campaign, and through both physical and digital materials to develop an educational tabletop role-playing game on the topic, based on the existing game Alice is Missing. Create opportunities for young people to engage with Italian policymakers, opening a dialogue centered on social justice in the Palestinian context.
