Objectives

Through Break the Frame, we aimed to achieve four primary objectives: 1. To promote critical analysis of media with a focus on intersectionality, enabling participants to deconstruct and understand how diverse identities are represented across various media channels. 2. To enhance the creative and critical thinking skills of young people as pathways to active citizenship, empowering them to express their perspectives on diversity through artistic means. 3. To strengthen youth workers' capacity to deliver art-based experiences that promote tolerance and inclusion, providing them with practical tools and methodologies for more inclusive youth work. 4. To raise awareness among European citizens about diversity and foster emotional connections through art, creating spaces for dialogue and understanding through creative expression. These objectives supported our vision of transforming societies by promoting constructive dialogue about diversity from an intersectional perspective, particularly focusing on young people with fewer opportunities.

Background

We applied for "Break the Frame" to address the critical need for inclusive approaches in youth work through intersectionality and media literacy. According to EU Youth Goal 3 consultations, young people identified the need for education focused on tolerance and diversity appreciation. Our target groups faced multiple challenges including social exclusion, limited critical thinking about media representation, and barriers to active citizenship. Youth workers needed stronger competencies to deliver art-based activities promoting inclusion. The project addressed these needs by: 1. Creating space for critical analysis of media through an intersectional lens 2. Enhancing young people's creative and critical thinking as pathways to active citizenship 3. Strengthening youth workers' capacity to use art-based methods for promoting tolerance 4. Raising awareness about diversity by creating emotional connections through artistic expression Break the Frame emerged as a response to the necessity for more inclusive societies where marginalized groups feel a sense of belonging.
