Objectives

The idea for this project emerged from the growing need of youth workers and educators to find innovative and engaging methods for raising awareness about human rights, advocating for their protection, and fostering human rights activism among young people. While human rights are clearly defined in legal documents such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, these texts alone do not ensure the active protection and promotion of these rights within national territories. Given the various challenges Europe faces today (e.g. migration, war, political polarization), addressing crucial, sensitive issues related to human rights has become more urgent than ever. However, many human rights campaigns and activism efforts often fail to reach their intended impact and can unintentionally result in backlash. These campaigns sometimes come across as moralizing, "finger-pointing," or blaming specific groups in society, which diminishes their effectiveness. The primary goal of this project was to explore new and creative ways to approach human rights education and its topics, making them more relatable, non-threatening, and understandable for young people. After examining current trends among youth, stand-up comedy emerged as a powerful tool to deliver meaningful messages and raise awareness in an engaging and approachable way. By delving into stand-up comedy writing techniques and identifying opportunities to address sensitive topics through humor, this project aimed to introduce new tools and strategies to the youth work field. The goal was to make youth work more relevant, dynamic, and appealing to young people, all while offering innovative educational approaches that resonate with contemporary trends. The specific objectives of the project were as follows: Raising awareness of sensitive human rights' topics among youth workers. Human rights are "rights inherent to all human beings, regardless of race, sex, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status." It is crucial for youth workers to gain a clear and comprehensive understanding of the importance of human rights in society. This knowledge will empower them to become active defenders and promoters of human rights, capable of advocating for their protection and fostering a culture of respect and equality. Equipping youth workers with new tools and techniques, such as stand-up comedy. Introducing stand-up comedy as a technique will enable youth workers to develop innovative strategies for promoting inclusion and engaging with their target groups in various settings. This fresh approach will allow youth workers to connect with young people in ways that are both entertaining and educational, addressing complex issues through humor without diminishing their seriousness. Providing youth workers with new skills and activities to enhance their impact. The project aimed to equip youth workers with practical tools, activities, and skills that enable them to adapt and deliver training formats that are engaging, impactful, and resonate with young audiences. These new approaches provided youth workers with the resources they need to create memorable and effective learning experiences. Enhancing the dynamic competencies of youth workers. The project sought to strengthen essential competencies in youth workers, such as communication skills, creative thinking, social bonding, and critical thinking. These competencies are key for youth workers to navigate the evolving challenges in their daily work and to effectively support the personal and social development of young people. Promoting and increasing the visibility of the Erasmus+ program: By offering trendy and innovative educational approaches, the project aimed to raise awareness of the Erasmus+ program and attract more young people to participate in its initiatives. The project’s creative and modern approach to human rights education aimed to serve as an effective tool to engage youth, inspiring them to take an active role in the Erasmus+ program and its goals. In summary, the main aim of the project was to expand the skillset of youth workers, empowering them with creative tools as stand-up comedy, to engage younger generations and raise awareness about human rights in a way that is both impactful and relevant to today’s youth culture. By integrating these new approaches, the project sought to address sensitive social issues while making the learning process engaging, thought-provoking, and accessible.
