Objectives

The project "GreenScape: Youth Workers Navigating Nature" was developed in response to a growing need for environmental education and sustainable practices within youth work. Our main objective was to equip youth workers with environmental literacy and innovative non-formal education methods, empowering them to integrate sustainability topics into their daily activities with young people. We aimed to strengthen participants' capacity to engage youth in community-based environmental initiatives, while fostering cross-border cooperation and promoting green, digital, inclusive, and participatory practices across different countries. Through the project, we sought to create an international learning experience where youth workers would build practical skills, exchange good practices, and develop new tools for working with young people on environmental themes. The central goal was not only individual professional development, but also organizational change—strengthening the environmental dimension in the work of participating organizations through practical activities and long-term strategies. To achieve these goals, we organized an international training course in Lithuania, involving 33 youth workers and 2 facilitators from 11 partner organizations. The training focused on ecological literacy, digital skills, non-formal education techniques, and community engagement methods. Participants engaged in daily reflective sessions, interactive workshops, outdoor learning experiences, and creative dissemination activities. A key deliverable was the development and launch of the "GreenScape Toolkit," now publicly available on the SALTO platform, designed to support youth workers across Europe in integrating environmental education into their work. Beyond the training course, the project objectives included encouraging local actions after mobility. Partners and participants organized 11 follow-up activities in their respective communities, despite challenges with partner engagement. We ensured the targets were met by taking extra steps as coordinators and mobilizing additional support. Inclusivity was a core value throughout the project. Participants included youth workers with fewer opportunities.. Green practices were prioritized through sustainable travel options, ecological workshops, and nature-based activities. Digital tools were used both for preparation and dissemination, including social media campaigns and the development of an online resource hub.
