The 2019 European elections demonstrated many factors that point to increased youth engagement. Indeed, several factors should be considered in this regard: - One of the notable aspects of the 2019 elections was the increase in voter turnout, which was the highest in 20 years. Youth participation, in particular, increased, and many attribute this to challenges such as climate change, to which young people are sensitive. - More young candidates ran for the European Parliament than in previous years. They represented a wide range of political orientations and highlighted issues of particular concern to young Europeans. - Several initiatives and campaigns targeted young voters to encourage their participation in the elections. They used platforms popular with them, such as social media, to raise awareness of the elections and the importance of voting. We must therefore act to maintain this positive momentum by promoting the European elections to young people, both for the present and the future of the European Union. Young people, often considered the leaders of tomorrow, are not just a segment of the electorate; they are the very pulse of emerging trends, ideas, and the dynamics underlying societal change. In recent years, we have witnessed the growing influence of young activists and their ability to galvanize international attention on crucial issues, from climate change to social justice. Their energy, idealism, and technological savvy make them a powerful force. Yet, despite their potential influence, young people historically have much lower voter turnout rates in European elections than other age groups. This mismatch between their adaptability and their voter turnout can result in policies that may not reflect their aspirations and concerns. Moreover, the EU, with its complex set of institutions and processes, can sometimes seem distant or opaque to its citizens. Young people, many of whom did not witness the bloc's formative days, may not fully recognize the impact of European decisions on their daily lives, such as regulations that influence the quality of the air they breathe or decisions that determine the ease of studying abroad. By actively promoting the European elections among young people, we can bridge this gap by making EU processes more transparent and accessible to them. Democracies thrive when their citizens are informed, engaged, and feel a sense of ownership over the political process. By instilling in them the importance of European elections, we are nurturing a future generation of voters who understand the weight of their responsibility and are more likely to actively participate in democratic processes throughout their lives. The challenges and opportunities facing Europe in the coming decades—whether related to digital transformation, sustainable development, or geopolitical change—will be felt more deeply by younger generations. Their voices, perspectives, and votes are crucial in shaping the policies that will affect European society today and tomorrow. With this in mind, our Elec-trick project aims to rekindle young people's interest in civic and democratic processes in Europe. The goal is to raise awareness of the importance of participation in European elections and its promotion within their communities. To achieve this goal, we are working towards the following objectives: O1. Highlight how young people can shape national and European decision-making processes. O2. Clarify the role and functioning of European institutions and their complementarity with national processes. O3. Cultivate participants' critical thinking in their approach to information conveyed online. O4. Stimulate participants' creativity to initiate digital campaigns promoting participation in the 2024 European elections.
