"Gamification for Environmental Sustainability" was a Professional Development Activity (PDA) aimed at empowering youth workers, youth leaders, educators, and environmental advocates with skills in need assessment, learning design, and innovative youth engagement methods. The project focused on equipping participants to adopt an interactive and engaging approach in youth work by utilizing board games as a tool to address environmental issues. Through this, the project sought to integrate board games as a medium for youth organizations to engage young people in climate action and environmental awareness. The project pursued the following objectives: - Discussing youth perspectives on environmental issues in partner countries and identifying support measures that youth workers can implement individually. - Introducing board games as a youth engagement tool, exploring effective examples of game-based learning for environmental education. - Equipping participants with transferable skills in idea development and learning design, applicable across various educational topics. - Training participants in creating board games with educational value, focusing on environmental themes and competencies related to sustainability. - Developing a collection of educational board games tailored for use in the youth work field to promote environmental awareness. - Testing the developed board games with local youth through a community event to gather feedback and promote environmental education. - Establishing a digital, printable resource library of board games for youth workers and leaders to use internationally in environmental education initiatives. The PDA’s methodology adhered to Non-formal Education principles, striking a balance between theoretical learning and hands-on activities. Trainers ensured active participant involvement by designing an engaging and interactive program structure, allowing participants to take ownership of their learning journey.
