We aimed to enhance the lives of visually impaired youth and transform youth work practices. By creating accessible and engaging social activities, such as role-playing games (RPGs). Also by equipping youth workers with both soft and hard skills, we aimed to increase their capability to promote inclusion and diversity. By introducing RPGs as a tool for inclusion and social interaction, we aimed to innovate traditional youth work practices. This approach provided a new method for engaging both visually impaired and sighted individuals. With this approach the goal was to encourage the visually impaired youth to actively engage in RPGs, stimulating them to actively participate in social interactions and contribute to their personal development and sense of initiative.
We applied for this project to enhance the social integration of visually impaired youth by leveraging the power of role-playing games (RPGs). Utilizing the 'Theatre of the Mind' concept, these games rely on imagination, storytelling, and verbal communication, rather than visual inputs, making them a uniquely accessible social activity for this marginalized group. The project focused on equipping youth workers with specialized skills in facilitating inclusive role-playing sessions, through training in disability awareness, effective communication strategies, and game adaptations. With this project we addressed several needs: 1. We created an inclusive social environment through games that are accessible for both the blind and sighted individuals. 2. Trained youth workers in effective communication strategies, disability awareness, and adaptations for role-playing games, enhancing the quality of youth work. 3. Created a sense of initiative among visually impaired youth through active engagement in role-playing games. 4. Enhanced awareness and understanding within the gaming community and society about the capabilities, rights, and potential of blind individuals to actively participate in RPGs.
