Objectives

The Green Shift project set out to mobilise youth workers as catalysts for a fairer, greener Europe. By bringing them together in two complementary training stages — “Foundations of Sustainable Living” (Yerevan, Armenia) and “Sustainable Action & Advocacy” (Bugibba, Malta) — we wanted to deepen their understanding of sustainability, strengthen intercultural cooperation and inspire practical, community-level change. More precisely, our objectives were to: 1. Educate participants on the global and local dimensions of today’s environmental challenges and the solutions available through non-formal learning. 2. Engage a diverse cohort of youth workers in an inclusive learning space that values cultural exchange and counters prejudice. 3. Empower them with concrete tools and skills so they can design and lead green initiatives once back home, acting as multipliers in their organisations and communities. 4. Expand European cooperation by nurturing a trans-national network committed to sustainable development and a shared sense of European identity. What are the objectives of your project from the perspective of youth work practice? 1. Understanding Sustainability: Instill a deep comprehension of sustainability and its pivotal role in our interconnected world. 2. Fostering Cultural Exchange: Through immersive exchanges, we aim to nurture mutual respect and understanding, countering prejudices and promoting social integration. 3. Empowering Youth: Equip young individuals with the necessary skills, tools, and insights, turning them into proactive agents of positive change within their locales. 4. Strengthening European Identity: By emphasizing shared values, cooperative endeavours, and joint learning, we seek to bolster a sense of European unity and identity. Target Group and Their Needs: The project is designed for young individuals aged between 18 and above, with a special emphasis on those from marginalized backgrounds, including migrants, refugees, and those from socio-economically challenged environments. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by these groups, the "Green Shift" initiative is tailored to address their needs, ensuring they are equipped with skills and knowledge that can aid their personal and professional growth, fostering a sense of belonging and purpose. Activities Planned: A blend of interactive workshops, cultural exchange sessions, field visits, and hands-on activities centred around themes of sustainability, social inclusion, and youth empowerment. The methodology emphasizes experiential learning, ensuring participants not only gain theoretical knowledge but also practical skills that can be applied in real-world scenarios. Expected Outcomes and Impact: At the end of the project, participants will have a robust understanding of sustainability and its multifaceted dimensions. They will be equipped with skills to champion causes they believe in and a network of like-minded individuals from across Europe, fostering a sense of European camaraderie. The initiative also expects to seed multiple youth-led sustainability projects across participating countries, creating ripples of positive change. This project, with its emphasis on collective growth, learning, and collaboration, embodies the spirit of Erasmus+ and the broader goals of the European Union.
