Objectives

We are proud to reflect on the impactful outcomes of the Youth Exchange (YE) Let’s Talk About Sex, Let’s Go Deeper. The project was a continuation of our inaugural YE Let’s Talk About Sex held in the Netherlands in 2021, which inspired numerous organizations across Europe to adopt similar themes. The overwhelming demand from partners and participants to revisit and deepen the topic convinced us to organize this exchange. The primary goal of this project was to delve deeper into the complexities of sexuality, providing youth with a platform to openly explore and discuss various aspects of sexual health, ethics, relationships, and cultural norms. The project aimed to dismantle taboos, address stereotypes, and promote a healthy and inclusive perspective on sexuality. Objectives of the Project The objectives of Let’s Talk About Sex, Let’s Go Deeper were: Raise Awareness: Address varying sexual norms across cultures and encourage open discussions about sexuality. Dispel Misconceptions: Correct misunderstandings and stereotypes around sex and relationships. Advocate LGBTQIA+ Rights: Foster understanding and support for sexual diversity. Promote Healthy Sexual Attitudes: Cultivate a mindset that values ethics, respect, and equality in relationships. Foster Cultural Awareness: Enhance empathy and understanding through intercultural dialogue. Develop Communication Skills: Equip participants with the ability to engage in open and respectful conversations on sensitive topics. Address Challenges in Sexual Education: Provide tools and knowledge to navigate gaps in sexual education and inclusivity. These objectives aligned with our overarching mission of fostering a healthier European society through open dialogue and intercultural collaboration. Key Changes and Challenges Several unforeseen circumstances shaped the course of the project: Visa Issues: Unfortunately, the Turkish participant was unable to join due to visa complications. This participant was replaced by a Dutch participant, ensuring the group dynamic remained balanced and inclusive. Participant Changes: Three participants who attended the Advanced Planning Visit (APV) were unable to join the mobility due to illness. Group Leader Change: Andrii, initially chosen as a group leader, stepped down from this role due to burnout. Joanna, another participant, assumed the group leader position, while Andrii continued as a regular participant. Preparation and Approach To ensure the program met the needs of the participants, we took the following steps: Personal and Collaborative Planning: Conducted personal meetings and Zoom calls with participants to co-create an empathy map outlining their needs. Program Alignment: Ensured the program content was meticulously tailored to reflect participants' input and achieve the desired objectives. Sustainability Focus: Half the participants traveled using green methods to minimize the environmental impact of the exchange. Clear Division of Responsibilities: Clearly defined roles and tasks for the partner organizations and participants, fostering a sense of ownership and active engagement. Program Highlights The exchange featured an array of workshops, discussions, and cultural activities, with participants leading several sessions. Topics included: Sexual ethics and gender equality Media influence on sexuality and relationships LGBTQIA+ rights and inclusivity Cultural perceptions of sexuality and personal space Communication strategies for discussing sensitive topics The program also included interactive elements such as role-playing exercises, empathy-building activities, and cultural evenings to promote understanding and solidarity. Conclusion Despite challenges, Let’s Talk About Sex, Let’s Go Deeper was a resounding success. The participants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations about sexuality and cultural norms, leaving with greater awareness and tools for fostering inclusivity and respect in their communities. A video capturing the essence of the exchange is attached to this report. We are grateful to all partners, participants, and facilitators for their dedication and contribution to this transformative experience.
