Objectives

The main purpose of the proposed youth exchange was to provide young people with the appropriate knowledge, and mental and psychological tools that would allow them to face any personal, intra-family, and social conflicts and contradictions in their lives in a healthy way, reducing the risk of falling into the net of addiction and in particular, the net of internet addiction and other modern addictions. It should be clarified that this project followed a "peer-education" approach that focused on prevention with a target group of all young people and not on addiction recovery or reintegration, as this would require highly skilled handling by suitably qualified staff. More specifically the objectives of the project were to help participants: • Clarify the differences between habit, on the one hand, and abuse and dependence, on the other hand, and learn to recognize the signs of developing psychological addictions, including internet addiction, in themselves and others. • Be informed and understand the different expressions and the extent of internet addiction in the participating countries, thus obtaining a global picture of the problem and the particular needs of each local community. • Realize the complex causes of the phenomenon and the fact that behind every addiction a deeper problem is hidden, as well as cultivate acceptance and understanding of individuals suffering from an addiction, and actively contribute to solving the problem. • Get a realistic picture of the phenomenon of addiction in general and internet addiction as a new face of modern addictions, and realize the vulnerability of all of us to it. • Assess the gravity and dangerousness of the consequences, against the misconception that psychological addictions lack destructive potential; because they lack the physical symptoms that substance addictions cause. • Be aware of existing prevention and response initiatives and practices of the society and the states. • Embrace the basic principles of prevention and self-protection against psychological addictions with a focus on internet addiction and all of its aspects. • Gain hands-on knowledge of various stress and emotions management techniques and approaches in a creative way, as well as realize the benefits of activities that combine sports, art, self-awareness, and self-expression and embrace methods of physical, mental, spiritual, and social development.
