The primary goal of the #EthiTech project was to promote responsible digital citizenship and empower young people, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds, to use the internet safely and ethically. The specific objectives we aimed to achieve through this project were: Enhancing Digital Skills: We wanted to empower migrants, refugees, and disadvantaged youth with the digital tools and competencies necessary for positive online communication and self-expression. Increasing Awareness of Online Risks: A key goal was to educate target groups about the challenges of the digital world, such as cyberbullying, online harassment, "fake news," and digital radicalization. Promoting Responsible and Ethical Use: We aimed to foster active digital citizenship, encouraging young people to behave ethically online to contribute to social cohesion and intercultural dialogue. Strengthening International Partnerships: We sought to build a robust collaboration between organizations in the Netherlands, Türkiye, Romania, and Germany to facilitate the exchange of good practices and create standardized high-quality educational materials. Social Inclusion: By providing these skills, all backgrounds fully and safely participate in the digital age.
We applied for the #EthiTech project to address the urgent need for enhanced digital literacy and responsible online behavior among young people, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds such as migrants, refugees, and youth in underprivileged areas. Our decision to launch this initiative was driven by the following key needs and motivations: Bridging the Digital Skills Gap: We identified a significant gap in digital functional skills, as highlighted by Eurostat data, which indicates that many young people lack the advanced competencies required for safe and effective participation in today's digital economy. Addressing Digital Risks: With the increasing prevalence of online risks, we recognized a critical need to educate youth on how to navigate challenges such as cyberbullying, online harassment, "fake news," and digital radicalization. Promoting Ethical Digital Citizenship: Our research showed that while young people are highly active on social media, they often lack a framework for ethical engagement. We aimed to foster a sense of responsible digital citizenship to promote social cohesion and intercultural dialogue. Empowering Disadvantaged Groups: A core motivation was ensuring equal access to digital opportunities.
