Objectives

Our #Power2Youth YE is designed to encourage active participation and engagement among 49 young people from 7 different countries. Through the YE, participants will gain knowledge and understanding of the European Union and its benefits, as well as learn about European values, human rights, refugee crisis, democracy, and inclusive democratic participation. Our goal is to inspire young people to become active citizens who can make a positive impact in their local, national, and European communities. We believe that by fostering intercultural dialogue and learning, the project will promote a greater appreciation for diversity and inclusion, leading to a more harmonious and cohesive society. We plan to involve the young people in a simulation of the decision-making process of the European Parliament. By doing so, we aim to help young people appreciate the importance of the EU for their nations and to raise awareness about the value of voting and civic participation. After conducting a Needs Analysis, it was identified by Viken's youth workers and participants' youth workers that there is a significant need for increased awareness and understanding of human rights and democracy among young people. Many youths lack the understanding of the concepts of human rights and democracy and their direct relevance to their lives. This highlights the need to provide opportunities for young people to engage in democratic processes and become active agents of change in their communities, learning about the different ways in which they can participate in the democratic process, such as through voting, engaging in civil society organizations, and participating in peaceful protests. Also, we recognized that young people need to be aware of their rights and responsibilities as citizens in a democratic society, including knowledge of their civil and political rights, as well as the importance of respecting the rights of others. By addressing these needs through the #Power2Youth project, we aim to empower young people to become active citizens who contribute positively to their communities and advocate for a democratic and inclusive society. Another significant need that emerged from the Needs Analysis is regarding to the war in Ukraine and the refugee crisis. The partner countries, including Poland, Romania, Republic of Moldova, Slovenia, and Norway, have received a considerable number of refugees. Therefore, it is crucial for young people to understand the underlying causes of refugee crisis, learn how to provide support for refugees, promote tolerance and respect for diversity, and engage in activities that foster social cohesion and intercultural dialogue. Our SMART objectives: 1) To increase the understanding of democratic principles, European values, and civic education among at least 49 young people, during the duration of our project; 2) Build bridges between refugees and communities, by providing opportunities for Ukrainian refugees to share their experiences and perspectives with other participants, in order to foster mutual understanding and respect for diversity; 3) Identify ways and local and international opportunities for young people to engage in activities that promote social cohesion and intercultural dialogue, in order to be pro-active and have their voices heard; 4) Increase the 7 organisations’ capacity building and establish a strong network of support enabling us to collaborate on future projects and initiatives related to human rights and community development; 5) To promote Erasmus+ opportunities and encourage youth to participate in mobility programs, with the aim of fostering intercultural dialogue, promoting social cohesion, and developing skills for active citizenship.
