Objectives

With this project, we aimed to provide a platform for young people and youth organizations from different countries in Europe to share experiences and discuss challenges related to freedom of expression for young people. Through training and non-formal learning methods, we wanted to equip participants with skills and tools to increase their ability to actively participate in society and overcome the shrinking space for expressing their opinions. Generally, we expected the project to raise awareness about the importance of freedom of expression as a value and a crucial part of European democracies among young people. At the local and regional levels, we aimed to lay a fruitful foundation for increased focus on youth participation and better conditions for freedom of expression for young people in public debates and discussions. The objectives of the project were: • To raise awareness about freedom of expression for young people as a fundamental right. • To empower participants to overcome obstacles to freedom of expression they experience, so they are better equipped to raise their voices and participate in public debate in their communities or online. • To inspire, exchange experiences, and learn from each other regarding methods for youth participation in democracy. • To build friendships across borders and create a foundation for further cooperation on the topic of freedom of expression and youth participation in democracy among the participating organizations. With these objectives, we aimed for the following outcomes: • Form a network of young people who are interested in and engaged in youth freedom of expression. • Increase participants’ skills to participate in public debates and discussions and competencies in their communities or online, and enhance their ability to actively participate in society. • Inspire participants with motivation to engage in future (formal/non-formal) education or training. • A map of youth freedom of expression shared in schools in Lillehammer/partner regions. • Increased experience and capacity for the participating organizations to work at the European level. • Develop new methods and perspectives for further development of the participating organizations’ local, national, and European youth activities.
