The main objective of FiuMare was to bridge the gap between environmental knowledge and action by engaging young people in hands-on learning. We aimed to raise awareness of marine pollution and its consequences. By combining non-formal education, hands-on activities, and direct action, we sought to empower youth to take responsibility for their environment. Through workshops, clean-ups, and artistic reuse of waste, we wanted to inspire critical thinking and foster sustainable habits. By leveraging NMF’s experience in environmental engagement and ReMida Bologna’s expertise in creative education, we aimed to create a scalable, cross-border model for experiential learning. Ultimately, FiuMare’s goal was to inspire a lasting sense of environmental stewardship in youth from Italy, equipping them with the knowledge and motivation to participate actively in solutions for dealing with marine pollution and overconsumption patterns.
FiuMare: tra Educazione e Sostenibilità was developed with the need and wish to address the issue of marine pollution as a growing global crisis. As global problems need global solutions, it was natural to seek cross-border partnerships within Europe. Pollution is an intricate problem that branches deep within society. Despite increased awareness, both Norges Miljøvernforbund (NMF) and Remida Bologna saw that there was still a significant gap in practical, hands-on education and community engagement in addressing these issues. It was this motivation and need that sparked the idea of what was to become FiuMare. Our hope and goal was simply that we saw that together, we could create a meaningful impact by combining education, creativity, and direct action. By leveraging NMFs experience in environmental engagement and ReMida's expertise in creative education, we saw that we could bridge the gap between knowledge and action. Our collaboration aimed to inspire young people, provide them with hands-on learning experiences, and foster a stronger sense of responsibility for their environment. Through FiuMare, we sought to empower youth to become active participants in the fight against marine pollution and environmental degradation.
