The objectives of the project formulated by the initiative group were: - to further develop the method of the international photography workshops initiated in 2023 - this was achieved by further testing the methods of working with new participants, in an extended number of days, a modified programme and with a larger number of participants, which was ultimately very well appreciated by the participants themselves, - to develop a passion for photography, expand technical knowledge and increase the capacity for creative expression through this form. The goal was achieved thanks to the participation of people with different levels of experience - the more experienced gave guidance to the newcomers, commenting together on their photos and jointly carrying out the process of selecting photos for the exhibition - exploring local history through meetings with local activists - through historical-photographic walks, visits to important places from the point of view of Bytom's history and meetings with many people who are the true guardians of the history and local tradition of Bytom and Upper Silesia, - getting to know young people from new countries with whom we had no contact before, which was achieved by spending 10 days with people from Sweden and Slovenia (we had already met Italians and Slovaks before), - organisational and coaching skills development by fully involving the participants in the organisation and running of the exchange, by involving young people in the planning of the project at the application stage, participating in the preparations and the preparatory visit, planning and implementing the programme, which was mostly carried out by the participants themselves, - fighting stereotypes about Bytom which is not a recognisable place for tourists, but has a great deal to offer - for all the people from abroad, this was their first visit to Bytom in their lives, they had never heard of the city before (apart from the materials sent by their hosts) and were charmed by it, and above all delighted by the warm welcome given by representatives of the local community. While learning about the city's rich history, they often referred to examples of similar places from their countries that are still waiting to be discovered, and their eyes lit up immediately when they imagined that we could one day adapt our project to their conditions and organise it in their countries. Another objective was to develop awareness of the impact of human activity on the environment and climate change - it can be said that Bytom and Upper Silesia are the best place to take up such a topic because of the devastated natural environment due to many years of exploitation of natural deposits in the form of coal, metals and minerals. Discussions on the topic were held with retired miners from the Rozbark Friends Association, but participants also learned about the history of the Żabie Doły nature reserve, which is a living example of the great power of nature and its ability to take over and regenerate ecologically devastated areas. - referring to the project subtitle, the project aimed to familiarise participants with what builds the identity of Silesians, who are the largest group in Poland not recognised as a national minority, despite the fact that they have their own language, mistakenly called a dialect for political reasons. Thanks to meetings with many Silesians, conversations and learning about their experiences, opinions and feelings about their own identity, the participants became acquainted with the situation of Silesians and what builds and strengthens them. The final objective was digital education in the use of media tools, especially photography, which was achieved as the participants hardly ever parted with their cameras during their 10-day stay in Bytom, and spent the last days selecting and editing photos and learning how to use digital photo processing software, which was then used in print and for the final exhibition.
