Objectives

In implementing the project, the beneficiary and the transnational partner aimed to provide psychological support to adolescents at risk of crisis and to equip youth workers with new prevention tools. The aim was to develop a publication on the prevention of presuicidal syndrome, increase knowledge of risk factors and strengthen the mental resilience of adolescents. The project also aimed to develop the linguistic, intercultural and professional competences of youth trainers through the exchange of mobility experiences. An important aspect was to raise public awareness among young people about mental health and stereotypes related to suicide. Through educational activities, it was also planned to improve young people's access to information on available forms of support and how to respond in crisis situations.

Background

The project was implemented in response to the increase in mental health crises among young people, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic and as a result of the war in Ukraine. There was a shortage of mental health professionals in Poland and Turkey, and youth affected by trauma, exclusion or economic hardship needed urgent support. The beneficiary and the transnational partner saw the need to equip youth workers with practical tools to support adolescents in mental health crisis. The project also responded to the need to strengthen intercultural competences and international cooperation in the field of young people's mental health. The need to create effective suicide prevention programmes and youth resilience-building activities was identified in order to counter the increasing number of tragedies and to promote mental health as an EU policy priority.
